Worst Holiday Music Ever?

I had no Idea I'd be starting this thread. But... I had some new (to me) Holiday CDs playing in the background this evening, when I heard a rendition of Ave Maria so - *ahem* - striking that it compelled me to act! The artist is Chris Cornell, and I guess I'm just not understanding his artistic vision.

Any other nominations out there?

Wow.... It sounds like two songs that don't belong together mixed into one. Then it sounds like he is drunk.

That's pretty bad...

Sounds like a Wayne Newton version of the Ave Maria. Off key to boot. Mixed with a beat by teenagers playing in their garage.

There are some pretty awful Christmas music recordings out there...can't think of them offhand. But I am very tired of the Nutcracker, even well done. It's played everywhere, constantly, and after a zillion years of it, I wish I could never hear it again. Maybe because at Tiffany's, HQ sent CDs of the music we had to play -- & Nutcracker went over & over & over again from pre-Thanksgiving till New Year's. Finally, the 3rd year, we rebelled at our store & brought in our own Christmas music -- which lasted about 30 minutes before being confiscated. But at least they let us hide Nutcracker that season!

--- Laurie

The two that make me want to dig my ears out are "Born to Die" and "Let's Make a Baby King". Inappropriate and tasteless, and begging to be butchered by American Idol reject-wannabes.

Shoot me. Just shoot me.

anything by the Chipmunks!! OMG --- ALVIN - shut up! And the Hippopotamus song --- please, just make my ears stop bleeding....

I just can't stomach Mele Kalikimaka. UGH

I love this!

I hear you, Jewelfreak. The one Holiday season I spent working retail put me off Holiday music for quite a few years!

DH and I walked into B&N one evening, and this group's Christmas CD was playing. Polyphonic Spree. (Please, I beg you, DO NOT tell me if you like their music. I will judge you. :cheeky:)

We looked at each other, curled our lips, and generally made fun of the "music" . . . until I reached my level of tolerance and asked the kid behind the counter "Who are you playing? They are so horribly b-a-d! The lead singer isn't even on key!"

He thought I was nuts, but he took the CD out. My DH, on the other side of the store, didn't know I had asked for it to be removed, but he said "Thank God", out loud, as the music stopped, and several people laughed and clapped. People were hating it, but only I would be a dork and ask about it.

I cannot begin to tell you how this group makes my skin crawl, and my ears bleed.

Oh, this is pure crap. Wow. Just . . . wow.

This might cause someone to go postal. Well, at least take some shots at the stereo, sound system, or ipod playing this drek. :cheeky:

All versions of "Last Christmas". Originally sung by Wham??? All. Versions.

Harry Connick, Jr. singing "When My Heart Finds Christmas". It is so ridiculously Paul Anka-ish. And that is in no way a compliment.

But the worst holiday music is not stuff we suffer with daily at our jobs, or in every store, or on the radio. No, the worst is the gal who thinks she can sing "O Holy Night", decides to solo on Christmas Eve at church, and fails to hit those high notes without screeching. That is the worst.

We have a dedicated group of music enthusiasts who form our church choir; they are often more enthusiastic than they are talented. I often have to remind myself that they, too, are worshiping and praising in their own way and people in glass houses, and ....

I feel your pain.

Dominick the Donkey. Why, WHY was this song ever recorded?

And Feliz Navidad. Can't stand that song.

Yes, we have one of those "choirs". And that's okay.
But, when the one solo-ing also regularly toots her own horn about her supposed talent, shouldn't she . . . deliver? :cheeky:

That was a joke! I hope it came across as that! It's so hard to convey sarcasm through text! :)

Didn't I ask you NOT to tell me?? Obviously, you are tone deaf.

Ditto to Dominick the Donkey, the Chipmunks and I want a hippopotamus for Christmas.

The absolute worst one, in my mind, is "The Christmas Shoes". Painful song, and they even made a movie about it.

Ha! I tried watching the video and 5 seconds into the singing, I had to stop it because it induced vomiting. So. Off. Key. I can't stand it. O holy night is my favorite song but I won't listen to just anybody. I feel like 99% of the singers butcher it to death. So why sing it! Why! That goes for you polyphonic spree!!

Yeah, I hate the Chipmunks! ::whispers:: I am not a fan of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra; everyone loves them, but not me. :knockout:

HahAha, I heard about domino the donkey today on the radio and it was so bad I just had to have it!

Bob Dylan's ENTIRE Christmas cd has the "nails on the black board" quality, especially "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing". Brings tears to your eyes, but not in a good way.

I happen to like Bob Dylan, but there's no way I'd entrust my Christmas memories to him!
