worried about the prongs in the setting

I just recently got a upgrade diamond ring for our 20th Anniversary. It''s a ideal cut 1.27ct E VS1 with H&A. Just by looking at it by eyes, it seemed the prong "head" were too small over the diamond, but I need your expert experience to tell me if the prongs should be extended more on the crown. Now they are barely over the girdle. I just got a 10x loupe today so that I can view the prongs with a better view. I did see in one prong, the diamond is not sitting properly in the notch but is slanted a bit higher so it seemed that the prong head is actually touching the girdle part. Can the girdle be chipped by the setter in this way? I read quite a number of discussions on diamond chipping by setter. That really worried me. How much should be the prong over the crown area to be a good setting?

I tried to take some pictures of the diamond, but I couldn''t get it very clear and the pictures are taken at night in room lighting so it''s not in the best lighting condition. But anyway, see if you experts can give me some idea of what to do next, or is it anything I should worry about (losing or chipping the stone).

It looks like your diamond is not seated correctly. I would look for a reputable diamond setter to set your stone correctly before the ring is worn.

Thank you for helping me know what is not proper. I am grateful that my husband suggested me to go find another jeweler in town to buy a new setting and reset the diamond. I did and thought I would now have a peace of mind. But no. I have new worries. It''s a totally different style. After I got it and later at night, I notice I can see white ring shining in the diamond if I view it from the side. It''s half way in the pavillon as viewed from the side. It''s possible for the setter to damage or cause cracks inside a diamond. I looked at my diamond everyday from the side in my old setting and never saw that lines. What happened to the diamond. Or is it possible that the new setting caused some internal reflections ? I''m even more deeply worried now. What can happen inside a diamond ? cracks, new crystals caused by heat or pressure, or drop on to the floor?

That is probably the girdle reflection...nothing to worry about.

What you are describing sounds exactly like the girdle reflection. This is totally normal, and nothing to worry about.

Thank you all for leading me to find the right information. Yes, it sure looks just like the various pictures of girdle reflection. Whew, what a relief. Just wonder why there wasn''t any girdle reflections in the previous setting. The only issue left is there''s still some adjustment needed in two of the prong. One was not touching the diamond when I inspected it with a 10x loupe. This was done by a GIA certified gemologists who own the jewelry store and it''s a totally different store from where I bought the previous one. I am disappointed that these people who know the jewelry don''t check for their job but left the customers to find out problems.

Anyone heard of this before? I was talked into buying this setting because it supposedly never needs rhodium plating.
