Just so you know, I''m trying to convince him to go get a second opinion right now, but we''ll see...

He''s been having some odd health problems lately:

1) lots of random and slow-to-stop nosebleeds. I bought some vitamins with iron and vitK and got him some saline spray in case it was his AC-ed work environment. He''s worked in AC before though and this has NEVER happened. It''s happening almost every day now.

2) He normally has chronic stomach toruble. His sister has one of the worst cases of Chron''s disease in the USA, and the risk of him getting it is 10X higher bc of her case. But he went to see a specialist and they could find no evidence of a problem from a barium CAT scan... But his symptoms match almost exactly what is listed on the ccfa (chron''s) website. It''s gotten worse lately to where he has severe and unpredictable pain after eating (its usually 10-20 mins after). It doesn''t realte to what he eats, except for moderately severe lactose intolerance--but even that doesnt behave like typical lactose intolerance.

I am thinking these two may be linked bc I read that Chron''s can interfere with vitamin absorbtion....

Does anyone here have IBD or Chron''s? Suggestions on a good specialist in the Boston area?

Is your husband in air-conditioned air all day? My mom gets nosebleeds all the time in the summer from being in it all day. My DH has IBS and has chronic stomach problems, too. A good friend of ours has Chron''s and it is awful. I feel so bad for him. I think he takes vitamin supplements to help with absorbsion.

He is in the AC all day, but the thing is that is has ALWAYS worked in an AC environment all day long in the summer and this never has happened before. His brother gets chronic nosebleeds but he never has.

The only thing I can think is that before he was working in Alabama, which is more humid?

Have him ask the docs about IBD, Chrone''s, and also Celiac disease. Good luck to you and him with everything.

Celiac. OK, I have not heard of that and will remember it. Thank you! Now I just have to maneuver him into the doctors office. Why are men so &*^% stubborn about their health???

I've heard that it's an instinctual thing, based on not wanting to appear wounded or weak, and therefore not attack-able and still a strong, worthy mate. *shrug*

I have no idea. It's as good a guess as any, I suppose.

rainbow, so sorry to hear of your FI''s health issues!

He''s lucky to have a fiancee like you, who is so concerned and willing to help him in any way possible, though. I know men can be EXTREMELY stubborn about seeing a doctor or admitting there is a problem--my dad had symptoms of colorectal cancer for two whole years before he finally had to have emergency surgery because the cancer had advanced so much. He wouldn''t tell even my mother about what was going on, even though she knew there was a problem.

He was always one of those people who was never sick, never missed a day of work, etc., and I know he had that mentality of "if I go to the doctor I''m doomed, and weak." I hope your FI understands that the best thing to do is to get treated for whatever is causing his health problems NOW before he is forced to if the symptoms get too bad.

I have heard of celiac sprue--one of my girl friends has it, and my mother suspects she does also. Both of them have experienced horrible digestive problems 15-20 minutes after eating certain things. You should come up with some information if you do a search for celiac sprue online.

Take care, and I hope your FI gets to a doctor and they can figure this out!

You might also want to ask about GERD (aka Acid Reflux). It can cause stomach pain and, if the acid goes high enough, bleeds... Have him get an upper GI endoscopy. That will tell if his anatomy is ''difficult'' or if something is wrong with that tract.

My bf has a genetic disease that requires him take all sorts of drugs, including an iv drug every 3 weeks, and gets colds about once every other month. He tends to avoid the doctor to the point that he igored severe pain in his leg which later cause him to break it. It''s like he''s trying to ignore a problem that will never go away. I''ve nicknamed him ''My Ostrich!''
