Ladies, did you graduate with a Computer Science Degree? Have you been out of school a few years? Are you programming for a living or doing something completely different, or maybe in the field with some technicality (ie BAs). Do you want to stick with programming? Are you good at it? Do you enjoy it? Do you also notice that a high percentage of the programmers are men? Do you grow your skills on the side (ie learning the new .Net framework, C#, MDX, OLAP, Cubes, etc, etc)?

I put this to the women on this board, because I honestly think men have more time to just play around and create aps.

I thought I''d chime in. I got my degree in graphic design and ended up doing some programming work instead haha. Also at the last place I worked, we had a team of developers and of those, about 10 were male, 2 were female, and they were all fairly young (in their 20''s). There was one older polish guy that was developing too :) In fact, the leader of the development team was only 28 I believe. Hope this helps some :)

I am more looking at how many hours per week do programming folks spend on learning and side projects. What type of programming did you do? I assume you are no longer with that company? Why did you leave?

At my current job I have been having to learn php (which might I add is a pain lol)
We all lost our jobs at the last company because it was bought out but it had been around for about 20-30 years. I worked with sql a lot at my last job as well and spent about 2 hours a night going over the material for a month before I really got a grasp on it.

PHP is a lot like Perl. I really enjoy doing Perl. Those regular expressions come in handy in a lot of places.

Yeah you''re right, I don''t think it''s even the php that bothers me, it''s more that I can''t find the file on the server I need to alter lol (more of a personal problem haha, I need better organization)

Yup, organization helps in programming. Thank you for your views. Sorry to hear about your company.

Anyone else here in programming or the like?
