Hiya guys,

I've been looking around and were hoping for some help.

We've looked at a ring with a 1.6 carat round brilliant diamond,

G colour
cut Si1,
polish good,
symmetry excellent,
flourescence faint,
cut good

http://www.gia.edu/cs/Satellite?pagename=GST%2FDispatcher&childpagename=GIA%2FPage%2FReportCheck&c=Page&cid=1355954554547&reportno=2165192529

we're a little disappointed by the cut and someone recently told us not to go for a "good" cut, so now we are worried and don't want to commit without further opinion.

Could anybody help out please.

Many thanks

No, don't buy this.

JulieN responded before I could. I can't speak to the "value," of buying a diamond of this caliber for that price. But I would recommend staying away from a "good" cut diamond.

Stick to excellent cut and try to stay within these proportions:
Depth: 60-62%
Table: 54-57%
Pavillion Angle: 40.6-41
Crown Angle: 34-35

No...just say no. You really need to go with Ideal or Excellent cut.
Sticking with the numbers posted by R&R are pretty safe.

Hiya guys,

thanks for the swift replies.

I'm assuming that it would not be a good idea to buy because of the cut?

we just spoke to a blue nile helpline person and they were surprised that the stone wasn't rated "very good", is this because the specifications are out?

cheers

Cut quality = how much it will sparkle. You're looking at a comparatively dull rock there. A cut grade of 'good' or 'very good' might sound great, but it's not. I wouldn't get anything with very good cut let alone good. I suggest taking your time and if you request the help of people on here to help you find a stone within a certain price range, colour range etc I am sure they'll find you some nice stones and save you making a mistake.

Good luck.
