Anyone bought one?
I'm curious about how accurate the pictures and videos are.
And how does he decide what he lists as color-change chrysoberyls and what he lists as alexandrite?

Hi Velourial! I did notice that he described some as color change Chrysoberyl and others as Alexandrite. I would very much wanna know the difference too. From my understanding from fellow Pser, his color change stones are not very close to what u can expect from the VDO. I have purchased an Alexandrite together with a GIT memo from him that was described as strong color change. It should reach me by next week. Hopefully, it does not disappoint me:) I will post some photos and feedback then.

Alexandrites typically change from a greenish color to purple or red, and color change chrysoberyl should probably be called "strong color shift chrysoberyl." It basically goes from green to yellow or yellow to brown. In theory all chrysoberyl color shifts. My stone is more yellow in natural light and more green in artificial light. I would avoid stones that go from yellow to brown, unless you like brown.

Yeah, that's kind of what I assumed, but it seemed like, from the images, a lot of his alexandrite looks roughly the same color as the color change chrysoberyl. And some of the color change chrysoberyl is priced pretty high and some of the alexandrite pretty low.

Would really love hear more customer reactions...
...she says, knowing full well she hasn't got the funds to bankroll experimentation! ;)

Chictomato - can't wait to see yours! Be sure to share, please!

I have no experience with Tan’s Alexandrites but I do know that only chrysoberyls that change from purple/red to greenish blue/bluish green can be called Alexandrites. If not to those colours, then it is a colour shift chrysoberyl. However, as most chrysoberyls have a tendency to shift anyway, those that have a strong change are the only ones that should be called a colour shift chrysoberyl. These are usually those that go from green to yellow. I purchased a chrysoberyl from Tan which he never advertised as a colour shift but the strong shift it shows IRL deserves to be called a colour shift to me. I do find that his video shows the colour much better than his pictures.

I bought an Alexandrite from him. The video does a less than good job at showing the color change. The pictures exaggerate a bit. In real life the purplish pink is a lot darker than what the video or pictures show and the greenish blue is comparable but more blue than the pictures or video shows. Also the auction description said "dramatic color change" and the aigs cert I bought only says "moderate change-of-color effect." In addition, there is a distinct color difference from one half of the stone to the other half that can't be seen in the videos or pictures he took. Maybe with a stronger light source the pink/purples would look closer to the internet picture.

The one I bought was sent back. As the transaction was cancelled I was not able to leave feedback. The stone was GREATLY exhagerated in the photos and the video, and I could not duplicate it in any way. Oh, it was an alexandrite.

I have an alexandrite from Tan
it goes from a purply pink to a light blueygreen
his pictures were cleaner and brighter than IRL but fair

Hi gals, I received the Alexandrite today. It is well-cut, but the color change is certainly not as strong as Tan' video, photos. It is a yellowish/bluish green in daylight. In incandescent, I do not see orangey red, I see more of a purplish red with orangey pink flashes. (IRL, the color change is more distinct than what u see in my photos) Well, for the price I paid, I have no complains:) I will be keeping it. Here are some photos as promised ;))

It’s not too shabby; at least you can see the colour change easily.
