This is such a great story I thought you might like to hear about it too.

A 50 year old woman who is a double amputee, decided to get herself a tail that would enable her swim. She wrote to Weta workshop, the people behind lots of movie special effects - who loved the idea and threw themselves into the project donating their time to design her a custom made tail. This was reported quite widely here and the photos of her using the tail are beautiful as is the story itself . Here''s the link if you''re interested.

I read about this, and it''s so amazing. If I were actually going to use my bioengineering degree, this is totally the kind of thing I''d want to do!

You could help create a school of mermaids. I think that would be the correct collective noun, but we could be creative - a pod of mermaids or a dazzle of mermaids?

I agree that school is correct, but I vote for dazzle anyway. Unfortunately I haven''t been paying attention to my biomechanics or biomaterials classes...
