I am about to make my first purchase of a diamond from JewelsbyGrace. I understand this to be a very credible, and reliable diamond seller. She offers a 5% discount by paying via wire. In general I have been very adverse to paying for anything by wire, especially something this large. I know she has a good rep here, so maybe I'm just looking for someone to calm my nerves and let me know she will follow through with her end of the deal? I mean a credit card payment can be refuted, but 5% is a lot of money.

Has anyone had a bad experience wiring money to a jeweler?

I felt the exact same way when I did my first wire a couple years ago for a 3ct+ diamond!!!! I was so nervous that the whole thing was a scam. I didn't even get the diamond for 6 weeks because it was sent off to the ring designer (another wire)! I started thinking "what if PS is a scam". That is how paranoid I was!!! So I definitely get how you are feeling!! Of course, everything turned out just fine and I have since sent another wire for jewelry. PS vendors would go out of business if they were not meeting their end of the deal once payment is made. Just imagine the threads you would read!!! You will be fine and it is totally worth the discount in my opinion. I haven't personally worked with Jewels by Grace but have read all sorts of good things about them. I believe the owner or owners post here occasionally. I could be wrong though. I hope that helps a bit!!!!

Thank you tweeter. That's exactly what I'm feeling. Unfortunately I work in an unrelated industry where people run these scams all the time, fold up that business name, then just re-launch a new company months later.

wiring money was nerve wrecking to me

1) it's not like I really loved Chase much previously, but the process of dealing with them with this wire transfer made me hate them even more
2) I must have checked the directions about 80 times before... I now remember everything about Blue Nile's bank by heart
3) I hope wiring that much $$ doesn't put you on some government list
4) Credit card must have felt much different... you get the charge, pay it off and you're back to a shiny $0 balance... seeing so much $$ leave your checking account is rough lol
5) I bought my diamond from Blue Nile, probably as large(reputable) as it gets, but it's still scary to feel like "hey I just sent this money away and there's still nothing to show for it"

all in all, BN is massive and I wasn't really all THAT scared to send it, but it's still mentally quite a trip... I wouldn't wire it to too many online places, BN was one of the few places I would've felt "comfortable" wiring the money to... I don't think I would wire $$ if I bought it from ebay or something...

I wired a large amount for my 4 carat diamond to Old World Diamonds (think, luxury car pricing) . I understand the nerves behind it, but everything turned out a-ok. I've worked with Grace with consignment of my goods as well-- imagine giving something worth 10s of thousands of dollars and hoping she'll give you the money for it when it sells ;). She held her end of the bargain up and I got my money for items I've sold through her. With any reputable company, it is not a big issue to me, to wire money.
