Wireless printer recommendation

Hi,

Anyone have / use a wireless printer they like and can recommend?

Ideally it would work with both Mac and Windows.

Mine still works but it's wired and I'm tired of running into another room to hook up my laptop to it when I want to print something.

I usually go for an inkjet. I once read that inhaling toner particles gave you the equivalent of black lung

I get the cheapest one on Amazon that has the best reviews. There is one brand I avoid. I think it's epson or canon?!?! It does something craptastic where if one cartridge finishes it won't print with the other one until you replace the cartridge. Dumb. I've had those moments where I ran out of black and printed in blue... so just make sure it's not the case...

Also I get the cheapest one bc sometimes the cartridges are so dang expensive! And also the printers are so light now that a bad jam can do them in. Currently I've got a Kodak I've been using for 5 years. I picked it based off of amazon reviews.

Ha, was just going to google Amazon for this link, because I just bought the HP 3830 last week from Amazon. It is a wonderful wireless all-in-one! Easy to set up, great printing/copying/scanning, has an auto feeder. I print from my Toshiba laptop and my mom prints from her iMac. Zero issues. We haven't tried printing from phone or anything. Paid $49.99 for it. Super pleased so far, definitely recommend.

Pinto, thanks for pointing out the "won't print without both cartridges in/full" because it prompted me to look for that specifically (although I also can't remember which brand it was now I think it was the Brother brand.)

And yes, who doesn't HATE buying ink. :/

I was also thinking about a laser printer...always been tempted by them. But of course the most efficient / best ones seem to be the monochrome ones. But I can't see having one printer for B&W and one for color or pictures so that's not happening. So I'm looking at a few color lasers too.

I have an HP Envy and it works quite well. I can print from my Ipad, Macbook and I phone.

Same here, it's convenient for all Apple devices and it's a good printer.

I have a wireless Canon black and white laser printer. I got severely fed up with color cartridges - both finding them and the cost. Cheap printers are cheap because they DRINK ink, that's how the company makes it's money back. Or at least, how they used to before outside sellers started selling cheaper cartridges.

Unless you print a lot of color, consider the B&W laser. I love that thing. Toner lasts forever, and I've never worried about airborne toner, because well, it's just not really an issue that I can see. I don't even get any toner on my hands ever, and I've only had to change a cartridge once in over a year? Love it. And it works with both my Mac and our PCs.

ksinger I have a feeling I would love a laser printer too, for all the reasons you mention. And I've read the same...the companies don't make $ on the printer, they make $ on the ink. I definitely don't print a lot of color. But what do you do when you need something in color? (has it happened to you?) That's the only thing that keeps me from pulling the trigger on a B&W laser printer, even if the something in color is only a couple of times / year. How old is your Canon?

Mine is the Canon Imageclass MF4880dw. Google indicates the release date was 2012, and we got ours in early 2013. I'm sure they don't actually make that one anymore, but I bet they have a similar one.

It prints well and works with both PC and my Mac. It does both black and white and color scanning, and if you can figure out how to set it up, it faxes. (I hate fax functions, no matter what machine. Just a roaring PITA). Honestly, we've found there really just isn't anything we do that MUST have color. We just do without, and life is so much easier. If I need actual photos, I upload them to Walgreen's and then go pick 'em up an hour later. Easy peasy.

Yes, I prefer single purpose machines too. I would love to have a really good scanner that just...scans. But space is always at a premium in our house, so multi-function is really our only option.

Overall laser printers are cheaper to use because the toner lasts a long time. Sadly our color laser is wired and pretty old; it still works like a champ though but half the time my Mac doesn't "see" it. Next time we need toner though I'll probably spring for a new one and go wireless.

We bought the cheapest air printer inkjet we could find at Sams Club. It is an HP 8600. It's an all in one that scans, copies and prints. Cartridges are pricey but it will print as long as there is black ink in it.

ksinger - i know. Bulky equipment is so annoying. My scanner has a pretty small footprint, but still.

marcy - right. And with inkjets, if you don't print a lot, you have a good chance of the drink drying out on you anyway. I want wireless but the option for wired too. I like options. I hate dealing with that one or two times when you actually need the very thing you don't have. If the wireless is down I want to be able to print anyway.

I have a HP Envy inkjet printer at home, on a pay monthly printing plan for work. The idea of the printing plan is that HP can tell when the printer may need more ink and they will be sent to me before they run out.

So far so good, as long as I do not misplace the spares, and I did that once with a tricolour cartridge, and had to ask them to send one out to me ASAP as I was still able to print black and white.

Works pretty well with my HP laptop.

The only downside is that it cannot print A3 as in double the most common page size in UK. It would be a good feature to have for printing larger posters for my pop up kitchen events once in a blue moon.
