Being a fan of antique jewelry I''ve seen hair jewelry around. Personally I find it a bit creepy. The ring with the dates and name should''ve stayed in the family however.
I find these pieces fascinating from a historical perspective, like looking at items in a museum. They are so old! Wouldn''t want to wear them though, and sad they weren''t kept in the family.
I love the sentiment and the memory of the rings but I think they should stay in the family or with people who knew the real story behind the ring. That said, I probably wouldn''t buy one but if there is one in my family I would keep it as a keepsake.
Most antiques don't stay in the family. I've seen it time and time again on PS where someone has inherited a piece of jewelry but they don't like the style or had no connection with the ancestor and want to sell or melt down the item. Certainly some pieces aren't worth saving.
Most antiques have a "sad" story if they are 100 years old. Their owners are gone. The hair thing would be a little creepy for myself as I don't want to be the owner of someone's hair. But overall I love antique jewelry and wish the pieces came with a documented story.
It had meaning to people who knew owners of these hair...
I would not feel comfortable wearing these rings. It is like keeping ashes of a person you never knew in your house. (BTW - is anyone selling ashes on ebay?).
I could buy an old photograph, though.
