I've been looking at diamonds for a few weeks now but just discovered this forum. I found a 2.12 K VS1 GIA excellent cut with strong blue fluorescence, and I want to use this pave setting but in rose gold:

Do you think that will look good?

Will the rose gold setting and the strong blue fluorescence offset the warmth of the K or will it look yellow? It says the side stones are G-H average. Customer support said they might be able to use warmer side stones. Should I just do that so there is nothing whiter to compare to nearby?

How about a 1.74 I color VS1 GIA excellent cut with no fluorescence instead?

I wish there was some way to see how it would look. Should I just order it and return if I don't like it? I am not in a hurry.

Thanks for any advice you may have.

ohh can you post the stones??

I love the idea of it being in rose gold, i think thats a great idea. I do prefer the diamonds to be at least close to the same color, and that much melee, i do think they will look a bit whiter. Did you find any solitaire setting you might like? or maybe having it as a three stone instead? That way you dont have to have any G color stones to compare the stone to.

for what its worth i love a k, i think they are a lot of bang for your buck!

I have a kind of similar setting with G color pave diamonds and it looked fine with a J stone (although I ended up with I). Maybe go with J? I am not sure on K. Also, you could go down in clarity on the center diamond from VS1 to VS2 or SI1. You should be able to find many stones in that clarity that will be eyeclean and the savings could allow you to go up in color if you are concerned on the color difference.

My setting is white gold btw. I am not sure how different diamonds look in rose gold.

I love that setting, please post pics if that's what you end up buying.

As to your questions, no one can say for sure if there will be a noticeable difference in colour. Some people are colour sensitive and wouldn't be able to handle seeing even a slight difference.

What did the vendor say about the effect of the strong blue Fluor? Typically it will make the stone appear whiter by a grade or two. Using warmer melee would also be a good option if you're really concerned. For what it's worth, I have a channel set diamonds that are G in colour and my stone is a GIA I/J with strong blue Fluor and the setting is 18k Yellow gold. 95% of the time, my centre stone looks just as white (and sometimes whiter) than the melee. On the rare occasion that I think it's looking warmer, it's so slight that I'm not sure if my eyes are making it up. As I type this, my stone is having a warmer moment...I think. And i know that no one would notice the difference except me. The setting you've picked out, the melee is really tiny and the stone will be quite a bit above them so I think it will be just fine, not noticeable.

Here is the K color:

And a couple of smaller I color that I also like:

or even

I really like the setting, so I will probably end up working with the diamonds to put something together.

I include SI1 SI2 in my searches but it is hard to find ones that look like they will be eye clean.

The vendor answer didn't address the fluor: "I do believe a warmer colored diamond will appear less warm in a yellow or rose gold setting. In contrast, I think the warmth will be brought out somewhat with G or H colored side stones."

I might just order it and see how it looks. Worst case I can send it back. The only problem is that I think the rose gold might be considered a special order. I need to ask.

Thanks for all the replies.

That is a gorgeous setting. It will look nice with a 2ct+ stone so that the substantial band doesn't dwarf the stone. I will keep watching to see what you find. (I think the rose gold will really compliment the K stone you are considering)

It's a nice engagement ring, the design is very special

This issue has been talked about a lot on PS. I asked the same question on PS a few months ago. Replies vary but there seems to be some consensus that there's a tipping point with yg/rg and how it influences the stone. My I/J in yg seems really white and the contrast makes it pop! Others with warmer diamonds L/M/N, yg accentuates the warmth of the stone. So, if the vendor thinks the diamond will look whiter in yg/rg then maybe it will, especially because of the fluor.
