Hi ! I''ve been trying to find a pair of lose diamonds for my mom that fits her budget. These are to be set in 22K yellow gold. I was thinking of going as low as I or J in colour, but then I''ve been told that while it''s doable, Whiteflash offers a pair of ACA but a K colour. Which one should I go for ? Will an ACA K colour look warm-ish ? I''ve searched the forum and saw a K and L set in white gold and platinum that doesn''t show any warmth. Help !!!

Welcome to Pricescope! A well cut K colour stone will not look yellow. It will have a warmer look to if than the colourless range, but I think they would look lovely set in ygold.

Do a search for arjunajane, one of a friendly regulars around here, her ering is a 1.25ct K coloured stone and it''s simply stunning. You wouldn''t guess it was a K colour and she gets many compliments on her ring. It''s just to die for.

Hi, thank you honey22. I am still a bit nervous as I''m buying for someone else (with HER money). Is ACA a good enough cut, then ?

My mom''s old stone was an I (old european cut), which was very very clean (to my untrained eye, under a loupe). Will this look the same, yellower or whiter ?

ACAs are branded ideal H&A stones, they are just gorgeous. I have one myself and I can't stop staring at it everyday. It's just the most sparkliest thing I have ever seen.

It's hard to answer your question without seeing your mother's stone. I believe the older cuts do show colour a little more, but don't take my word for it. You will be hardpressed to find a better cut stone than an ACA, so I would say that IMO if you put a K colour ACA next to your mother's stone, the ACA would face up whiter. A well cut stone hides colour more than a poorly cut stone too. That's not to say that your Mum's stone isn't a great cut, we just can't tell without seeing it. But in my non-professional experience, I think older cuts do look warmer to me.

That said, WF have an excellent return policy and upgrade policy so if you aren't happy you can always come up with another solution.

You could always see if WF have an Expert Selection stones in a slightly higher colour grade that fits your budget. These are still really well cut stones, and many have just missed out on the ACA branding. Speak to your SA at WF, they will be honest and are very trustworthy.

ETA - I should ask what sizes stones are you looking at? Larger stones will show more colour than smaller stones, so bear that in mind too.

I have an L colour set in YG and it looks fine and still white, a softer white. Hard to predict what yours and your Mom's preferences will be but WF do have a return policy so you are covered. What size diamonds?

Lower coloured Diamonds set in 22ct will not appear as low a colour as the same stone set in white.
But the more gold you have around the stone the better - just tiny prongs makes little difference because there is not enough contrast

K ACA''s will be beautiful in yellow gold. Don''t worry!

I recently sold a 2.72 M color stone to a client. He set it in yellow gold and had very small diamond encrusted around the larger center stone. It looks stunning and makes the piece look like a fancy yellow and is very elegant. Don''t worry!

Wow !! Thank you for the response !!

I love your ring, arjunajane. It looks delicious....

At the moment I like smaller ones of less than a carat that looks dainty and sweet, but maybe that''s because that''s all I can afford at the moment. hahahahha....

Always wanted a chanel setting like your new ring. I have one that has a row of 5 diamonds in a chanel setting, but I think the stones are too big at about over 10 points each.

Back to my mom''s stone, the stones would be a little over half a carat each (the diameter is around 5.3mm). I can see a litttttllle warmth in her old stone (not sure whether it was just my untrained eyes biased by the yellowness of the setting or lighting or not).

Her setting is a 6 prong claw setting. I don''t know what it''s called, but it looks like a tiny flower petal (each prong). Please excuse the description (shows how little I know even after lurking PS for months...).

So, is half a carat big enough to show the "yellowness" of the stone (provided it''s an ACA or ES) ? I think my mom won''t really know what is what. She did mention that she remembers her mother''s ring that sparkled like anything even in a very dark room, while it doesn''t "stare" at you in daylight (her way of saying how some CZ and even some diamonds look "dead-ish") but it would dance and sparkle. It would be nice if that is the kind of stone she will be getting. I can just see how pleased she will be.

I searched diamonds with GIA cert in PS and one stone (WF) was a 58 pts HSi1 (the only one) in the whole list (and it was 816USD). Why is it so cheap (I mean... cheapER) ??? Here are the stats given:
. Depth %: 60
. Table %: 61
. Girdle: STK-M
. Measurements: 5.34-5.39X3.22
. Polish: Very Good
. Symmetry: Good
. Culet: None
. Fluorescence: None

The others within the budget were J and K''s (I don''t want to go lower than Si1). But if you think I should get that HSi1, would it be easy enough to find a matching diamond or would it be OK if the other half is a J or K ?

I would be hanging on your every word, experts !

IMO a K in yellow gold would be fantastic!
