Last week I became the proud owner of a Mark Morrell Sunburst (there''s a thread in SMTR), so of course it is made with his choice of platinum, a 900 alloy (10% Iridium by weight). I know there can be problems wearing a gold band with a platinum one, but is there any problem wearing two different platinum alloys together? I''m assuming that if I go hunting in brick and mortar stores for a wedding band that most of them will be a 950 Iridium alloy or similar. According to MWM''s website, the 950/IR alloy has a Vicker''s hardness of 80 and is much more malleable than the 900/IR with a Vicker''s hardness of 110.
Does anyone have personal experience with seeing differences in the wear/durability of the two alloys, especially side by side where differences may be more apparent? I think my main concerns are differences in color, would a 950 wedding band age (build up a patina) faster than my E-ring, and if the E-ring could make a mess of the wedding band where they rub together.
