I found a stone on JA.com and am very close to pulling the trigger. The HCA score is 2.0 and there is no access to Image Scope images (since the rock is not in the NY office according to the CSR). The HCA has very good for all categories except it is Excellent in the Fire category.

What are your thoughts?

This is a 1.4ct Round Brilliant I-VVS2
clarity cut polish all Excellent and Flour = Faint.

Thank you

My thoughts...
Something sounds fishy: I haven't heard this before re. IS pic and stone location... JA takes pains to assure the PS community that they are not a drop-shipper, meaning that stones are brought in-house for inspection before forwarding to the end-consumer (not shipped directly from the manufacturer), so they need to confirm availability before processing your payment. My understanding is that they limit the number of free IS requests to three per purchase specifically to avoid having to call in an infinite number of stones (on their dime) for photography prior to customer purchase. So why can't they do exactly that and call in this stone for photography prior to purchase?

ETA: I just looked at your posts and read through the other thread. Given that JA has already dropped the ball on you once I really can't fathom how this CSR fails to recognise the importance of either getting this new stone that you're interested in under the ideal scope before charging you for it or recommending an in-office alternative!! :nono:

Its pretty common that JA doesnt have the stones in their inventory to take images on request.

I dont think it means the stone is fishy.

Notwithstanding that, I wouldnt buy a stone off the internet without an idealscope/ASET. There are hundreds of other stones where you can see the images before you buy and look at them in person.

You make a good point....now I feel lost again :wall: All I want is the best diamond (best HCA, color, size, etc.) for my budget but the more I venture into this online world, the more I get lost....

JA doesnt advertise on their website that they provide scope images. You only really find this out through pricescope that you can ask and they can provide them usually.

I think its a bit harsh to consider the CSR "dropped the ball" in this situation.

I bought with James Allen and was happy with my purchase. Spoke to them on the phone several times. Every single one (with one exception) was a pleasure to speak to and very helpful. The one exception kind of ruined the stellar customer service for me in comparison to some other vendors, but generally they are good and helpful.

I am sure James Allen Schultz is keeping an eye on developments in the background.

yes i will clear things up to say that the IS images are available but will take 3-5 business days for them. So, I am sorry if my first post insinuated that there were no images available.

Proto, I have never seen mention of this here on PS before, nor have I encountered it in my purchases with JA (which I have been very happy with):
"Its pretty common that JA doesnt have the stones in their inventory to take images on request."
However, I have not been on PS regularly for several months; have I missed a recent case? Or, perhaps, I am misunderstanding and "on request" the key phrase here - it is perfectly understandable that IS images may not be immediately available for stones that are not on-premises, but can be acquired in a few days.

I did not suggest that there's something wrong with the stone itself, but that the CSR's statement of inability to provide an IS photo was fishy, given my understanding of JA's business model. I see that the OP updated to state that JA said that they could get an IS, but that it would take a few days, which is very different from the implication that IS was unavailable altogether.

I constructed my post to state exactly what I mean, nothing more and nothing less - I did not say that this specific CSR has dropped the ball, but that JA dropped the ball with confirming, confirming, confirming, and then denying availability. 3-5 days to have the stone shipped to photograph is a very reasonable timeframe. Given this situation I do indeed find it a bit ludicrous to ask the OP to pay for the stone in entirety prior to doing so... "good service" would be JA shipping the replacement out for IS photography prior to charging OP for it.

And all of this dialogue is secondary to the fact that we can't possibly tell you, OP, anything about the stone from the HCA score besides the fact that "it is likely worth further investigation".
HCA is not a selection tool - it merely suggests that a stone that "passes" is "likely worth further investigation".
It does not tell you that a stone that passes "is going to be a winner".
It does not tell you that a stone that fails "is going to be a doozy".
Seeing the lab report and getting an IS are part of said "further investigation".

Yssie, think I confused JA with BN on image request.

my apologies for confusion
