Well my DH bought me the Nintendo WiiFit yesterday and already I''ve been working out on it. Its loadsa fun and does get you working up a sweat. It starts off by asking for your height, then it calculates your weight..........that''s a scary 3 second countdown and BMI. It then gives you basic balance tests and then you can go on to do some of the games, hula hoop, skiiing, tightrope walking etc.

Its split into 4 categories - aeroebic, muscle, yoga and balance. Within each section there are loads of things to do and if you reach a certain goal within them, they unlock more advanced tasks. I thought it wouldn''t be all that, but it got my weight on the money and balance on the money.

I don''t know if its released yet in the states, but its brilliant and definitely worth the money, so go buy it when it comes out. I think it will be great for getting people off the couch when they''re playing video games. You wouldn''t be able to rely on this alone for exercise but mix that with your normal routine and healthy diet and it will pay off.

I have set myself a goal of 7lbs to lose in a month.........I''ve already lost 1lb so fingers crossed, and I''ll keep ya posted.

Sounds great! and fun too :) I plan to purchase a Wii and will definitely get one (my balance isn''t so good though due to past injuries). Can you adjust the level of intensity for those who can''t go full force?

I love your avatar - really cute.

It doesn''t calculate an intensity, it just provides you with feedback on your performance and what you can do to improve. Also, it gives you a graph and a plan of what you have done and what you should do, so there''s no pressure to achieve anything other than what your body is capable of. What I''ve found is that my competitiveness is from doing better than I did the last time.

Also, if you''ve got family and you don''t want them to see your results and progress you can also password protect your info, which I think is brilliant.

This is great if you''ve had injuries n stuff cos you can do it in the comfort of your own home and no-one needs to know.

I love it, particularly the hula-hoop one, oh and the step.

I think you just made my week! FI decided to spend his tax money on a Wii, and I was worried that I would start to resent it because I don''t expect to use it that much, and I"m spending my tax money on a new mattress for us, but now that I can see a VERY practical use for it, I think it will be money well spent!

You''ll not resent it or regret it. Its brilliant and you''ll find yourself using it a lot. The WiiFit is additional to the basic set so you''d need to buy that on top of the unit, but again, if you love playing the wii, then you''ll love the WiiFit unit.

My fave is the tennis and its amazing how competitive you can get. I hate playing with my husband cos he''s too fast, but then when I win, I do end up lapping the room........you can have great fun.......and well if you''ve got a wii and a new mattress..........who knows.

Thanks for posting about Wii Fit. DH got a Wii for his birthday. I knew I wouldn''t use it much, and Guitar Heroes is getting pretty old! I''ve been wanting to try the Fit, but I didn''t know if it was a bunch of hooey. Hmmm, perhaps that''s where some of the tax rebate check should go....

That''s awesome! My BF has been reading up on the game and we''ll definitely be getting it when it comes out in the middle of May! But it''s something I look forward to before summer vacation!!

I LOVE my Wii. I play the boxing and tennis games all the time. The boxing is a great workout.

That sounds awesome Po! I''ve only tried tennis, and it''s super fun. I love the satisfying *THWACK* of the racket hitting the ball.

Boxing is the Best!! I used to do the virtual boxing at Dave and Busters, but ended up having shoulder surgery, so I can''t do that anymore. Then I was babysitting a boy with a Wii and I was overjoyed to find the boxing. But I am a very energetic competitive person by nature.

I beat 4 adult males last weekend..in a row...sweating like a pig. I kicked off my heels, pulled my hair up and was "Does Anyone Else Wanna Try and Take Me on This Game?!?!?!? The guys were like "She''s Crazy"! (I was more proud of the fact that I was out of breath and sweating like a pig from knocking out the 3rd guy, and one pounces from the couch all bravado and "rested" and I still knocked him out after 4 rounds..oh, and the fact that I am a woman and nearly 18 years older than all them didn''t hurt my ego either).

Yep, the Wii rocks.

Definately makes working out more fun.

I did a search to see if anyone had talked about Wii Fit. I preordered mine and it arrived last week. I set it up tonight and I can tell that it''s going to be a lot of fun! I was surprised to see that the weight and BMI seem to be really accurate! I worked up a sweat doing the hula hoop and unlocked the next level. Fun times! I logged 30 minutes of activity, trying out mostly aerobic and a few strength and balance activities. I think this will turn out to be money well spent!

it as well! It is so fun! The Hula Hoop is my favorite. Oh and running, haha.

I've lost 9lbs since I got it and been working out on it 5 mornings a week. I love it, it just makes home exercise fun. I love the yoga, the hula hoop, so far my best has been 823 so gotta beat that and I love the step boxing.

Yeah, the weight and bmi are too accurate cos if your weight fluctuates then it visible on the chart so you just need to focus on the long-term rather than the short-term reaction of 'oh, i've put on, to hell with this, chocolate'.

or is that just me?

Congrats on losing 9 lbs!

Does the step boxing have to be unlocked? I don''t recall seeing that as an option on the aerobics menu?

Thank you.

Yeah, its locked and sadly I can''t remember what you need to do to unlock it. It''ll be lots of fun when you do tho. Let me know how you get on.

I LOVE the wii fit!! This is going to be such a great thing for us. I''m already changing my food choices since I know it''ll show up on the graph later. I''ve locked my exact figures, but my relative up and down progress still shows on the graph at the start of the game with my DH''s. Finally a good outlet for competitiveness! It feels great to get a high score in an activity. And I really want to beat DH''s downward progress. Although I had a nightmare last night about gaining weight and my graph shooting upwards!

DH almost hurt himself laughing when he saw my mii on the wii fit. When it weighs you for the BMI index it changes your mii character to fit your score. (I''m apparently on the wrong side of the line between overweight and obese!) So when DH signed on to the fit and saw the mii characters run out onto the screen, he saw my little short, fat pink mii run ungainly out with her little arms pumping valiently. It''s ok, his mii is on the chubby side too!

I really do work up a sweat using it. And DH is complaining that his sides hurt from the Yoga and hula hoops. I think it''s going to really work for us.

Speaking of which, I''d better sign on for a little warm up before breakfast!

Indie - we can be WiiFit buddies

Let me know how you get on. Isn''t it addictive??

I love the t-shirts on my mii, soooo cute.

I am really excited for the WiiFit! So excited that I made DH go out and by the Wii today on an impulse buy haha. Our nephews have the Wii and we have really enjoyed it so I thought now was the time. I have heard a lot of good reviews on the WiiFit as well as here, but it is impossible to find around our area!! It is still next to impossible to get the actual Wii as well. Now it is just the waiting game until I have it in my hands... or should I say under my feet

We got the Wii fit for Christmas from my FIL. I did the running portion of it and thought it was so much fun! Anyone else love it? I like it; just not sure how much of a workout I will get compared to going to the gym but so far it is fun
9.gif

PO, are you still using yours?

We just got one for x-mas. We haven''t set up our''s yet but I have used other peoples. I love the ski jump and the tight rope. Tennis is so fun too. I can''t believe you lost 9 lbs! That is awesome!!!

Wow, I should go get it. We have the Wii, but I haven''t stalked the stores to get one yet. Everytime I go, they are out.

I''m also curious to hear from long time users of it now that it''s been out a while. It sounds like so much fun, and to have lost 9lbs is a great start! But do the bells and whistles keep it interesting? For those that already have a moderate workout, can it replace the gym? (I do hope so! I never really got into the gym vibe).

My sisters and I got a Wii and the WiiFit for my parents! We spent the majority of our Christmas playing with it. Ski jumping is my favourite and we love the bubble one too. My BF is a whiz at the table tilt game...he beat it! As for losing weight and the game replacing the gym...I''m not so sure. I did find that my heart rate went up and I was a little out of breath with some of the games, but I generally hold my breath when I play video games (because it can be pretty intense) but I wouldn''t compare it to a cardio workout! Boxing on the other hand....

I think many of the activities are great for developing core strength though!

Congrats on the 9lbs, Po!

D got me the wii fit for my birthday-I''m addicted to it! It''s amazing. I love the aerobics, hula hooping and ski-jump. Well worth buying.

Congrats Po on the 9 lbs, that is awesome!

The running was fun; I want to do it again today. I liked the waterfall on the jog; a nice indoor activity when it is rain out.

I love the Wii Fit. Especially after you gain a few pounds and it asks why.

I already knew it before, but I'm underweight.

Congrats Po on the 9 pound loss.

We bought our grandboys a Wii for Christmas. My daughter and I are going to use it for the wii fit, tee hee. After reading all of the great reviews. I actually have a hula hoop here too. I will have to start using it again.

LINDA, I bet the boys would LOVE the Wii FIT!!!

BEE, ah that is so sweet of your FI!! Cool!

TACORI, I will have to try the tight rope! heehe

PENN, can you skip the weigh in? I think there is that option? I accidentally didn't adjust for my clothes so it was funny to see it asky why I gained weight; I haven't though.

We bought a Wii for Christmas, but Wii Fit was sold out everywhere! We did get one for my mom and she loves it! This is definitely something that I want to get in the near future.
