How thoughtful you are! And congrats on becoming a first time dad!

A thought to consider - a bezel setting (similar to the Tiffany Elsa Peretti setting) will make the earrings in either of those sizes appear quite visibly larger. Is a bezel setting an option for you? You wouldn't have to purchase the Tiffany brand, but this could help you with your budget get a larger appearance 'bang' in a smaller stone size.

this is a link to the Tiffany pic for reference...

If interested we can post some sites that carry them.

Thanks for all of the help, and the kind words.....I appreciate it.

It is a hard decision...and as of this morning, I am still undecided. There seems to be a variety of opinions on this...with some saying to go with #2, some saying that is a mistake...others saying to spend more $ (not really an option) etc....so, it is difficult.

Thanks again for the help!

Just go with your gut. She''ll love them no matter what because of the sentiment behind them.

Personally I''d go with the BN ones. Even though they are a drop-shipper they have excellent reviews, a good return policy, and are fairly well respected. The other stores I haven''t heard about, and WF is just too much in price for the size.

What''s the return policy for Diamond Jewelry Masters??? What if you ordered some from them and also from BN, that way you can see them in person and pick the ones you like to give to her? I would ONLY do this if you are positive that you can return them without any trouble!

I just wanted to add that for earrings most people let the standard of cutting and quality drop compared to what they might otherwise choose for a ring. I would be confident that most people that any of us are to see irl are not wearing top excellent cut earrings!!!! So by all means get the .5 carat and enjoy the extra size (over .25).

Your wife will only see the wonderful act behind the gesture and it will be a very special memory indeed!!!

This may be true but most of the population walks around with bad quality diamonds in their rings too...

I totally agree with this. Don''t blow the budget, with a baby coming money is going to be flying out of the household! You may want to go higher quality or better size, but that depends a LOT on your wife.

Your wife will be so pleased that you listened to her wishes. Upgradable would be nice, however, if she''s sentimental, she''ll always want to keep the earrings that you presented her with after the birth of your child. Congratulations.

I agree with Sharon and jsm, that whatever you do I''m sure it will be appreciated. Diamonds do seem like a special gift, especially when given by a loved one. The only reason I didn''t include Diamond masters in my consideration is because I''ve never heard of them. They could be good, or not, too little information.

Please post back whatever you decide!

I've never used this vendor before, but they are listed with Pricescope. I did a quick search and couldn't find anything but good reviews (most of it was out about their showroom in NYC).

Here is a pair that are bezel set (another posted mentioned that this would also make the stones look bigger, I agree and ADORE bezel set earrings). They look to be in your price range and are .50ctw, ask for a PS discount. Also, look through their site, they may have other options as well.

Good luck, it is a really sweet gift. And I agree that you should absolutely stick with your budget and get the best you can afford!

ETA: They obviously have a stock photo on their site, if you inquire about the earrings make sure to ask specific questions (e.g. is it eye clean to your specifications? What are the cut standards, etc)
