Re: Why would a sitting president need to hold a rally?

The media (those black-hearted fake news devils) have postulated that: he needed his ego stroked and missed the adulation he received during his campaign -- hence the re-election rally one month into his term; he is feeling confined in the White House.

love and affection?

Seriously lets face some facts:

Donald Trump is a narcissist which means he has to be adored to appease his ego. This is his way to be adored because he's not getting that in Washington.

Donald Trump said it himself "he likes stupid people". That's not me putting words in his mouth. Though frankly I wouldn't vote for someone who said such a thing.

"The New York Post" article was actually kind towards Donald Trump and insightful. I felt it gave me an answer to kenny's question in human terms rather than simply dismissing Trump as bizarre and narcissistic (although I do think he is). He is still human. Thanks, Matata.

Or hold a one-hour-plus press conference, for that matter... both a week or less before his first Stat of the Union Address?

To stroke his ego, of course.

Me too. So... maybe it's no so bad that he needs to hold a rally to get his ego stroked at this point in his presidency. I do hope this behavior abates though and that he settles down and starts acting more "presidential."

Based on the ridiculously negative press he gets - sometimes warranted, sometimes not - I would imagine it is to provide an unfiltered two-way connection to those that voted for him. The NYPost article is likely right. As that article stated, both Bill Clinton and W. did the same thing.

excerpt

Bill Clinton and George W. Bush both held campaign-style events in the early weeks of their presidencies, too. Now, they were not so blunt as to call the events that, but the hallmarks were all there.

In short, this is what presidents do, some more than others, to reconnect with the people who placed them in office.

So based on the fact that Clinton and W. did the same thing you would put them in this group also? All stinking politicians want attention. Some more than others.

Remember during the primaries, when every time Trump said something outrageous, non-followers thought THAT would be the comment/action that would finally bring him down? What happened instead was his support GREW. I realized this early on, after the attack on McCain. This has to be the one, I thought. (In case anyone forgot - here's the quote: “He’s not a war hero,” said Trump. “He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.” It's still shocking to me, a die-hard progressive democrat liberal, that the dickwad arsehole said this.)

It wasn't the one. Not that one, not bragging about the size of his dick during a debate, not Palin tossing up word-salad at his rally, not making fun of a disabled reporter, not saying he could shoot someone and still have support, not denigrating a Gold Star family. Bragging about grabbing women by the pussy? That was the one that I personally found the least consequential yet all of a sudden everyone was up in arms. OK, finally? Nope, in the end more white college educated people voted for him than against him.

All this is to say:

This is President Trump. He is not going to act more "presidential." He is going to continue being exactly what he is: unapologetically Trump. This is the real deal, this is who we elected for president of our country. It's a bitter pill to swallow, but swallow it we must. We can't sugar coat it by trying to believe that there's something else there that will manifest itself when the time is right. This is it.

I suspect there is tacit agreement between those with a real agenda in the White House that the best thing for everyone is to keep Trump out of the way as much as possible. If he's at Mar-a-lago showing off his clubhouse or on the road, doing what he likes and receiving the ego strokes he thrives on, they can put their heads down and get to work on trying to push their (nasty little) agenda through.

It's like sending the kids out for ice cream so you can get the house picked up before the in-laws arrive.

This sums it up perfectly!!! I'm convinced this all he wants to do, go from one rally to another.

So people who voted for Trump are "drooling morons."

Believe me, he is not the sad one.

That would be those of you who still cannot comprehend why people voted for and support him.

Could you imagine if it was Clinton who was now in the white house?

Cigar would be the new p*ssy.
