Hi Everyone,

I''ve been looking at diamonds for a few mths now and currently have ltd it down to the following 2:

Diamond 1
Carat: 2.05
Clarity: SI1 (have verified with vendor that it is eye-clean - but did see feather in the GIA report, close to the rim of the table sorry I don''t know what that area is called in technical terms!)
Colour: E
Cut: Ex
HCA: 1.6
Depth: 62%
Table: 55%
Crown Angle: 35
Pavilion Angle: 43
Star length: 55%
Girdle: Medium Faceted
Fluorescence: Faint
Price: AUD$42,382 = USD$28,819

Diamond 2
Carat: 2.01
Clarity: SI1 (vendor DID NOT verify it to be eye-clean and didn''t get to see copy of the certificate)
Colour: E
Cut: Ex
HCA: 1.4
Depth: 60.7%
Table: 56%
Crown Angle: 33
Pavilion Angle: 41.2
Star Length: 50%
Girdle: Thin to medium faceted
Fluorescence: Faint
Price: AUD$43,487 = USD$29,571

No ideal scope images were availabe as vendor said must have them called in before they can be performed.

I am a bit confused because Diamond 1 appears to be better in terms of clarity (being verified eye-clean), bigger and is comparable in terms of HCA so why is it cheaper than Diamond 2?

Also, what do you guys think of the price? Is this a value for money diamond? Our budget is supposed to be AUD$40,000 (USD$27,200) but if it was really value for money I don''t mind spending a bit more

Thanks for your opinions in advance!

Do you have the #s right for #1? That diamond is really steep/deep. I cannot get an HCA of 1.6 with those values -what did you enter?

WHo did the reports? (GIA, AGS, EGL, etc) - I suspect #1 is an EGL report based on the #s listed. Is the 43 actually a percent # and not pav angle #?

get the diameter measurements on the stones. If your #s are right #1 will be small for its size.

(ETA hca pings on #1 as girdle being dangerously thin which does not go with your listed medium girdle which makes me think you entered #s wrong or it is an EGL stone...)

If one is EGL and the other is GIA or AGS then do a thread search on EGL and you will understand why cheaper.

Oops sorry, I did do typo here.

Amended specs are:

Diamond 1
HCA: 1.6 (ran the cut adviser in the tools section of PS)
Measurements: 8.13-8.16*5.05mm
Crown Angle: 33
Pavilion Angle: 40.8
GIA graded: 31 Jan 2008

Diamond 2
HCA: 1.8 (again from cut adviser tool on PS)
Measurements: 8.18 - 8.26*4.99mm
Crown Angle: 33
Pavilion Angle: 41.2
GIA graded: 26 August 2008

Sorry about confusion and thanks for your help!

Check specs again

- now I am getting girdle overly thick with
ca 33, pa 40.8, depth 62 and table of 55 on #1

ETA: #1 is facing up smaller than #2, esp considering it is actually a slightly higher carat weight.

Oh no...I''m such a ditz

Am so sorry for typo

Crown Angle for #1 is 35

Two lashes with a wet noodle and off to bed with you! :)
THey both have definite potential. I like #1 - it may have a slightly older grading report explaining the price difference (after I wrote that I actually then saw that you posted the dates on the reports so I would definitely say a 1/08 to an 8/08 date difference would explain a large part of price diff). #2 actually faces up a little bit larger (almost by a mm), but #1 is a little bit rounder (sometimes can indicate more tightly cut). I would lean towards #1, then the price difference would cement it for me!

Oww...oww...yes I am definitely not one attention to detail person

but wil definitely try harder before getting diamond!

I was leaning towards #1 but was abit worried the price is cheaper due to something I''ve missed or didn''t understand.

So an older GIA report is ok? What does more tightly cut mean (sorry for being such a noob here)

Thanks again

Haha! DOn''t worry we are all noobs at one point!
Yes, older is fine. More expensive stones sometimes have older reports - that is ok as long as everything else is in order. More tightly cut means more precisely cut which is good.
Are you in Aussie land? We have quite a few Aussies around here (can''t seem to shake ''em!

). You may want to look into Jorgia or Holloway DIamonds - I think there have been some recent posts that you may be able to get the most bang for your buck currently actually in Australia.

Yup I''m an Aussie

These 2 diamonds are from Jogia Diamonds (his response time on emails are excellent btw)

I will actually be flying to another state just to see the diamonds as my BF does not like the idea of having diamonds sent in the mail whether to me or to an appraiser (reckons SOMETHING will happen).

Just one last question, for the prices I''ve noted for the 2 diamonds, am I paying too much or about right?

:) For flights if you have not already booked I think it is Virgin that does 1hr sales at 12pm and 12am every day and you can sometimes score really great prices on flights :).

Lucky ducky I agree with AJ very romantic :)
