I am currently on the hunt for a diamond for my (hopefully) future wife!

I have generally narrowed down what I am after, and a local forum (in AUstralia)directed here.

Why is there such a large price discrepancy between these two diamonds? I understand that the 4C''s play a significant role, and that table, crown and pavillion angles and fluorescence etc. all play a role. Is there something I might be missing, and a reason why the cheaper one seems to be such a good price?

Both are:

.81 Carat
D colour
VVS2 clarity
Cut, triple excellent
Both GIA certified.
Linked diamond = A$7590 (http://www2.jogiadiamonds.com.au/images/certs/J4150328.jpg)
Attached certificate = A$6700

If anyone can tell me I would greatly appreciate it. THanks

Are the from the same vendor?

From the numbers, the stone with the attached report is better than the stone on Jogia.

Different vendor will price differently. Another thing to note is the time when the stone is cut, some vendor priced the stone at the time when it gets into their inventory some keep adjusting to the current market price.

Thanks for that.

They are both from Jogia - who with these diamonds are acting as brokers ( they don''t have the diamonds in stock).

I would get the cheaper stone then. The price is probably set by the vendor actually owning the stone.

Thank you!

I will do just that.

Benny, I''d guess that the prices may be influenced by the price of rough when each was crafted.

The higher priced diamond was actually originally graded in January, 2008; at that point in time, the market price for diamonds had been steadily increasing for many months.

The lesser priced diamond was graded in November, 2008, several months after the September/October 2008 collapse of the economy, which caused diamond prices to correct/decrease a bit.
