Hello all. I have been lurking for several weeks after I chose to start shopping for an e-ring and have found this place to be fantastic!. While looking, I came across this

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/G-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1195068.asp

Can anyone explain why this diamond is so inexpensive for the size an cut? I know the clarity is a factor but from the look of the actual stone, it seems clean. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance

Not sure...could be because it is facing up a bit smaller than many of it's counterparts. Also the girdle variation is large, from thin to slightly thick. Could also be undesirable inclusions, I would want to see the plot of the report.

But if you think you might want it I would reserve it ASAP before a lurker steals it.

Ditto. At the same time, ask to see both the grading report and IS. Even better...ask Jim. If Jim were trying to be helpful, he''d either tell you...or find out and tell you. Since pricing tends to be market smart, and we''d all like to know.

I requested the actual report and the idealscope. Hopefully, I''ll get them soon so I can get a better idea. Thanks for the quick responses!

I saw the diamond isn''t availble anymore, did you buy it?

It looks promising! Let us know if you liked it.

I just looked - it''s still available.

Did you get the IS image?

More info looks to be available on the site...some being good, and some not so good.

The good...it does earn the 0 for light performance.

But...in comments it says...clarity grade partly based on clouds not shown.

This may or may not be the one for you to go with...but that comment on this board, if I read it correctly, can give one some concern for the diamond to be effected with dulling effect on the light performance.

Do a search, though. There may be controversy about it.

Some probably say this wouldn't effect an SI 1.

Others say ask an appraiser. I say...find an appraiser who would know a dulling cloud if they saw one. It's been said this is routine for them. But...I've not heard one appraiser say that themselves on this board...

Note...also...you HAD been looking for an explanation of the discount. This may provide it.

Regular Guy makes some important points. I would have them eye ball it and see if the clouds are an issue for performance.

JA does have some of the best prices in town though!!
