I asked for help for a friend of mine in a previous thread and she finally decided after much thinking to go for the Mark Morrell Flame setting although the original thread was asking about Torchiere and Sunburst. The diamond had already been purchased at that point. She sent Mark an email requesting a quote and how to make payment over 3 weeks ago and has heard nothing back. Is this normal? How long do you usually have to wait to hear back from him? Her mail did get through because she told me she recieved an automatic reply. She''s unable to call him during his two hour time frame because she''s at work then.

Is Mark still taking on clients for his signature pieces?

Sometimes emails can slip through the cracks. Has she tried to call at all? Mark is VERY nice. I would tell her to call and leave a message for him. I am sure he will call her back at her convenience sometime if she tells him that she''s at work during his usual call time.

He could also be on vacation...his website usually says when he is. I haven''t checked but it''s a possibility this time of year.

Ditto Neat.

Thanks for the prompt reply ladies. I believe her fiance did try calling once after she had sent the email but it was obviously at the wrong time since nobody was available. I''m assuming that he left a message. I was just wondering if everything was ok with Mark.

His website home page says that he is currently focusing on his existing projects and not new emails about future projects and that his workload is for the upcoming autumn wedding season. I would definitely find a way to talk to him directly to let him know that you (or, in this case, your friend) is a serious buyer with money to put down NOW so that she becomes an active customer. Sounds like she''d still have to wait a while possibly, but if she wants an existing setting and not a custom one, he might be able to take her request sooner rather than later.

He also says that he was away on vacation for three weeks and the end of July/beginning of August, so he''s probably a bit backlogged from that as well. This sounds like one of his busiest times of the year.

The title of this thread caught my attention....so here goes...

I can honestly say from my clients feedback and from my personal dealings with Mark, that he is very
friendly and accomodating over the phone as well as a true gentleman who cares deeply about each and every client.

The challenges of being self-employed are many. I could easily use an additional 12 hours a day.
I know that Mark would agree. He is a fellow Bostonian..and we are noted for having obsessive caring personalities

Please give him a call and leave a detailed message.

Mark is a one-man show, with no employees. He does everything himself. For him, telephone calls and emails outside the time periods he stipulates are interruptions to his work.

I have a good friend who is also a master custom jeweler. He works through the wee hours of the night because he says that's the only time he's not interrupted.

These guys are artists. They're not your typical businessmen (or women). They get rolling on a creative streak, and the last thing they want to deal with is interruptions.

Mark's a great guy though. If you contact him personally, or leave him voice mail, he will get back to you.

Just wanted to ditto the above comments regarding Mark. He made my ring and I found him to be a nice man who is very committed to giving his customers the best work possible. I know it can be a bit disconcerting having emails and phone calls go unanswered but I would encourage your friend to keep trying as it is not intentional neglect on his part, but rather the result of being a one person operation. Mark really does work all hours, as when he was making my ring I would often get emails from him during what would have been the small hours for him.

Hi KittyBling!

I hope you can get a hold of Mark! He seems like a very nice guy, we wanted to go with him, but couldn''t afford him while we were looking for rings, but he has great work! When I emailed him a month ago he responded very quickly, perhaps you could try again?

Good luck! I would love to see pictures! Mark Morrell''s rings are totally GORGEOUS!

Well I''ve heard back from my friend and they''ve decided not to go with MM as its going to take too long now.

They are moving abroad soon and she would rather just have it set locally as soon as possible. Now she wants me to get a MM setting in the future so she can ''live through me'' lol.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to reply. Its always nice to read about how friendly he is and how he treats his clients so well.

I know the OP''s original situation is resolved, but as an added note for those reading, September is one of the busiest wedding months. As such, it''s typically a really busy time for those hustling to get wedding bands finished in time.

As previous posters said, he went on vacation for 3 weeks, plus this is one of the crunch times for weddings. Because Mark is a one man shop, he unfortunately only has so much time. He''s really a very nice man, who cares deeply about his craft, and who also does all his own waxes and CAD modeling. Plus he polishes his rings to a very fine degree - which is all time not spent emailing.

It''s unfortunate that the timing didn''t work out this time, but she can still purchase a MWM from abroad. For me, I would be willing to have no ring or a temp ring while I waited for my MWM, as long as it was perfect. But I know this isn''t the case for everyone.

So would I but to be honest I was more excited about it than my friend lol. While she agrees that its a beautiful setting for her its not the end of the world. She''s obviously not as obsessed with jewellery as we are!

Sounds like you wanted to live vicariously through her :)

That said, I *do* wish MWM would post more photos to his website for all of us who love his work. But then he wouldn't be at the bench. Tradeoffs.

It''s good that your friend will get a ring she''s happy with, but I''m of the opinion that Mark''s work is worth waiting for. Of course, I am rather biased as I will have to wait a few years to get my ring from him, but no doubt it will be worth it.
