Why is finding an oval ring setting so difficult?

I seem to be really striking out on finding a nice gold (or platinum) setting for an 8x6 oval spinel. Where am I not looking? Can any of you PSers throw some of your trusted sources my way? Thanks :wavey:

New? Secondhand?
Plain, engraved or with diamond accents?
Budget?

New or secondhand is fine, I like styles ranging from solitaire to art deco, and I can spend anywhere up to $1200.

Have you tried Stuller? I seem to recall they had some oval settings in that size. Not sure what style you are going for exactly, but you might want to check out their site. I think local jewelers can usually order in something from Stuller. Do you have any inspiration photos?

8x6 is a standard calibrated setting. Any good local jeweler should have access to catalogs like Stuller withmany 8 x6 semimounts.

The Chinese sellers are also all over Ebay with 8x6 semi-mount settings with diamonds. It all depends on the particular style you're looking for.

For $1200 the custom option is also very available.

Depending on the style of setting you go with, most semi-mounts are made for diamonds. Colored stones can have differently shaped or larger bellies than diamond sometimes and may not work with premade settings, even when they are technically the same width x length. If you like any of the ones from Stuller see if a local jeweler will call a few different styles in for you so you (and the benchman setting the stone!) can drop it in and see if you run into any depth or belly shape issues before you are committed to a setting.

Take a look at David Klass on Facebook and then try contacting him. I am looking at having one of his 5 stone settings (i am having it made with oval shaped stones) and was REALLY surprised by how affordable his settings were.

good luck

Stuller has nice settings, but I really hate that you can't see prices and have to get them sent to a jeweler. I want to just order it, get it in the mail, and see if I like it!

I sent DK an email today! I worked with him before on a project for a sim and was very happy with it. I am just trying to avoid the mass produced Ebay settings, I don't want it to break 6 months after I buy it.

I'm sure dk can do what you're after. I am shocked by what he can do for budgets, sometimes

Good luck Elliot, DK sounds like a fantastic option! :appl:
