Would love to hear your thoughts

I like to have nice, shiny, blingy things ever since I was young.

Some of them are sentimental, and some are celebrations of milestones in life that make me proud of myself and my achievements.

DK :))

I used to collect rocks as a kid, and study geology. Somehow that turned to gemstones and lastly to diamonds. I've always loved jewelry. Don't know why.

For me it is fashion statement, personal history, and art collecting. Why? It is a compulsion... but I also think of many of my pieces as a key to unlocking certain memories. I like that.

It brings me joy.

It's one of the ways I express myself.

It is wearable art as @lala646 wrote.

I find gorgeous jewelry mesmerizing and it makes me happy.
Just to look at it. And of course to wear it.

For me, jewelry symbolizes love and romance and all that is beautiful in the world.

I don’t purposely collect but sometimes I have to try different things to figure out what my ideal is. For example I bought multiple cluster rings before I found the one, now I have a collection but I’m working on selling them.

I have not been able to part with my bands though, that is a collection born out of laziness. I wouldn’t want to go through the effort of finding them all again for the prices I paid.

I’m a magpie...I love everything sparkly...Diamonds, crystal, sterling silver...I especially love my diamonds. It’s become a therapy for me in a hectic life. When life is stressful I find myself gazing into the sparkle of my rings. They soothe me.

I love their beauty, they bring me much joy.
I made it a hobby and a challenge to “find” or “acquire” certain types of gemstones or pieces of jewelry at certain price points.
I have always been frugal with my money and in my 20s dollars were very tight as I was paying off my first property, a 1 bed apartment. Very proud I was of purchasing this apartment. I had $50 a week after bills and everything to splurge with. I would have some items on layaway for months. At the pawnbroker/ antique dealer I frequented I started working Saturdays, this money I converted into items from the store!

I echo what everyone has said so far.
Shiny stuff, geology, gems, glass.......etc! Anything glowy or sparkly has always piqued my interest.
As a little girl, I used to ogle the jewelry on my Mom, grandma, aunts, etc.
Then Dad bought me a birthstone ring when I was about 6, and it's been non-stop ever since.

I was born tacky and love huge swingy earrings and jingly bracelets. The noisier the better and even more so if none of it matches. Different metals, beads, whatever. I love it.

Normally I tone it down but because of covid I'm able to spend lots of time rattling around happily in my own home.

That is a fabulous line if ever I read one.

My grandmothers loved jewelry. I always played with their real and costume jewelry. Both sets of grandparents started buying me jewelry in my early teens for birthdays - that I got to go and pick out - with assistance. Pearls, earrings, bracelets and a small Princess Diana type ring. My parents continued the jewelry tradition.

As a grownup I continued the tradition buying for myself and my daughter and also my mom. I inherited jewelry from my grandmothers and my mom has gifted me some of her jewelry. I grew up appreciating jewelry and that has continued. I think it is art and, in many cases, beautiful.
During these difficult pandemic times it’s nice to be able to have some beauty to wear or just play with!

I tend to collect more rocks than actual jewelry. Never fear I have my fair share  I like pretty things. these are small enough that the collection dosen't really LOOK that big until I take it all out of the packages

I used to play with my God Mother's fabulous jewellery collection, trying on multiple necklaces, bracelets & large clip-on earrings. Then I would tramp about in some of her high heeled shoes. It was something about the sparkle, shimmer & the sound it made.My sister bought me my first real gold & Amethyst ring when I was eleven.I had that ring for years & sadly lost it somewhere outside. My first real stuff was yellow gold, but I grew tired of it as it had become dated. So I sold the lot & bought white gold, sterling silver & platinum. I have only recently bought some tiny gold & turquoise stud earrings (3 different styles) to wear in multiple piercings & a delicate gold & turquoise necklace. I love the look of gold & turquoise together.

There’s no inherited “heirloom” jewellery in my family. I guess I was just attracted to sparkle and colour. As soon as I had the budget to fritter some spare cash I started buying the classic pieces, and it’s just progressed from there. I’ve recently moved to buying coloured stones and have a spinel and a piece of lapis to set. This is a whole other, dangerous game to play! Endless colourful rainbow sweeties to collect!

It’s funny, I started collecting because my mom did, and jewelry was what I received as gifts for birthdays and Christmas, etc. But it has become a conscious decision of my own to continue collecting.

It brings me great joy. Jewelry is a beautiful way to memorialize occasions, accomplishments, even people. I have a core set of pieces I wear daily, but I love the history in my jewelry box, the stories it tells. This is why I have a hard time letting go of pieces I don’t wear. Any piece I have worn regularly for any length of time somehow feels like part of me.

As collections go, jewelry is small and fairly easy to store. It holds value better than many other options...and successive generations may enjoy it as well. One of my most prized pieces belonged to my grandmother.

1. Very pretty.
2. Takes up very little space.
3. Can take with me most everywhere.
4. Durable
5. Holds some value.
6. Can be passed to future generations.
7. I like it.

HI:

Because I feel I work hard and do not want that to be for "nothing". LOL. Beside my ears and hands look terrible all on their own--they need adornment!

cheers--Sharon

Hmm.. good question and something I have been asking myself more as I get older. It's also been on my mind frequently since covid. I love stones, and beautiful workmanship, and pretty much like anything that is crafted with love and care. I do get enjoyment from many of my pieces, but feel I have more appreciation for my handmade and more unique, unusual pieces. I don't wear anything while at home... unless it's new (so I can stare at it hehehe) so I haven't had much occasion to wear anything the last 8 months. The older I get, the more I think about the discrepancy between what some people have and others ,don't. Some days, it's harder than others to feel "good" about the amount of money I have spent on jewelry. I became an avid cyclist about 5 years ago (at age 52) and quickly developed a pretty expensive bike habit which puts my jewelry habit to shame I honestly tell my husband that he would have been much better off if I stuck to jewelry! I don't really have regrets, as I try not to engage in that type of thinking. I try to learn and move forward and figure out where I am at at any moment and what makes me happy now. That being said, I have a tendency to collect things and it comes from an emotional place that, as I get older, I am not as attached to, thankfully..

It makes me feel happy. I enjoy the wearing my jewelry as it gives me a confidence boost. And I enjoy the collecting and feeling content in rounding out my collection, by certain color or style etc. I appreciate the artistry of the setting and the stone and that I am wearing something that took someone a lot of time, energy and integrity to complete for me and I appreciate that. And I work hard for my money and I've denied myself for so long so it's also turned into a I value myself enough to spend this money on myself. It's complicated lol! I've loved jewelry since I was a child. And it relaxes me :))
