Why do women shave legs and underarms?

Cause under the arms it''s stinky
and on the legs - well - I am not a Sasquatch''s wife!

Why do men manscape?

hair.in.teeth.

I like the feeling of having my legs freshly shaven but I hate it the next day. The feeling of having NOT shaved my legs past a week is almost as good as having them freshly shaven... stubble sucks. Keeping freshly shaven legs becomes an upkeep issue :P

As for the nether regions, I think it''s actually pretty suggestive to wear a bathing suit and have hair sticking out every which way. I''d rather not advertise like that. I also prefer the look of being neatly trimmed and TBH, while it''s rare that i''m smooth as a baby''s butt, when I am it feels great (though the week after is hell).

Just to play devil''s advocate ... isn''t this more a problem with the way swimsuits are cut? I can''t recall the last time I saw a dude, even a dude in a Speedo, wearing a suit that necessitated the application of wax where the sun don''t shine ....

True, however most men''s hair in that area merges seamlessly (though thinner in some instances) into their leg hair so it''s hard to tell. Not to mention I really try to avoid starting at men''s crotches at the beach! Especially when they''re in banana hammocks!!!
Except that, in the ladies'' case, the sun does shine there- hence the wax application (and subsequent removal - ouch!)

I''ve never cared for body hair, so I shave

I couldn''t care less if every other woman in America decided to let her pit and leg hair grow - I wouldn''t be joining that group

Cultural conditioning.

Exactly. It 'looks gross' because from a very young age, we're taught that smooth and hairless is beautiful. And it 'feels gross' because we're used to how being smooth and hairless feels.

If we were reborn into a completely different culture indifferent to body hair, we wouldn't look down at our bodies post-puberty and go, "Quick! Someone help me remove this disgusting hair!"

(That said, yes, I shave, and I completely acknowledge it's for the reasons above.)

To the women worried about being 'hairy' while giving birth:

Think about what your husband will be seeing coming from that 'general area.' An unkempt bikini line is nothing.

(And assuming your husbands are all good men, they won't care about any of it.)

It feels so much better! I love soft smooth legs after I''ve shaved, and I''m sure DH does as well.

I am also against nothing down there (why look pre-teen? eww), but neat and trimmed is a MUST!

I shave the legs about once a week, the pits every other day or so, and take a micro touch trimmer to whack the weeds down yonder when needed (about once a month). Why? Pants feel nicer, pits look better and if I don''t do some lawnscaping things get... erm... messy when my monthly visitor comes to town.

You asked for it Kenny.

In regards to shaving/grooming and being pregnant, I know my sister got waxed (not sure if there are any concerns there).

I guess many things are done in an attempt to distinguish oneself from the opposite sex.

Men are hairy - women have to be smooth (estrogen).

Men wear their hair short - women wear them long.

Men wear their hear long (e.g. ancient Sparta) - women shave them off before marriage.

I would just like to add that I''m 30 weeks pregnant and body hair is my BIGGEST concern for labor. I know it''s pathetic but I can''t *reach* and DH hasn''t seen me not clean shaven before...and that HUGE BRIGHT light that will be shining on me! I get stressed out just thinking about it!!! How is a pregnant women supposed to stay well groomed for the 4 weeks of pelvic exams and labor when she can''t even see her crotch?!?!?!

Sorry Kenny...you asked.

Very easily...you go get waxed! Have a bikini wax and half-leg wax done, so you won''t have to worry about all that in the last weeks. Keep in mind that babies don''t always arrive on time (mine were 5 weeks early with #1, and 12 days early with the other three), so if you get it done in week 35, you''ll be pretty much neat and clean for the rest of the pregnancy. Congratulations on your impending arrival!

I personally am a girly-girl, and hate not being well-groomed. I like my legs smooth, and things in between well attended to. ;)

This thread is hilarious!!! I have LOL''ed several times! Oh the mental images!!!

Well, I, too like smooth legs and underarms and shave regularly. BUUUUT, I''m not gonna lie to you, if I lived in a culture where the accepted "norm" was to NOT shave legs and underarms... my reaction would be WOO HOO!!!

I''d gladly toss the razors!!!

when I had my #2 baby my doc and my dh were really chummy and I was out under general anesthetic so the doctor apparently was giving him an anatomy lesson, "This is the inside of her uterus, over here is her bladder..." my dh apparently said just please put it all back, thanks lol Whether I had hair or no hair wasn''t even a topic.

pupp, that was quite the typo.
as for labor, i was small enough that i could see everything, groom, shave, tie my shoes, etc. before i delivered. but, i have a very squimish husband who did just fine with everything hanging out and i am typically quite modest but it really does go out the window. he even looked in the mirror i requested (i wanted to see her head). and at my most embarrassing of moments he took my hand and simply stated "it''s totally normal, don''t worry about it." when the time comes you you likely won''t care about such things and i would be suprised if he does.

I get why some women do it. I don't have hairy legs (they are basically hairless except for the premenstrual fuzz I get on my knees) So I don't shave at all. I tried to shave once as a teen and I took out a hell of a lot of skin!

I shave my pits maybe once every 2 weeks. I maybe mow the lawn every 6 months. I just don't have a hairy body. Its a blessing and a curse sometimes.

I admittedly have a thing for hairy men....but not men with taco meat on their chests. smoove that out son!

This! Really, the fact that you are not perfectly groomed is the last thing your DH will be noticing or you will be thinking about

I am a hairy beast. I must shave every single day. I shave my underarms, legs and what shows in a bathingsuit. As far as the rest of my down there I use clippers and keep it short and neat, but not bare. I think it is like before puberty too. Also, when it grows back it is like sharp velcro and destroys the TP when I wipe. You know the charmin commercial with the baby bear with little bits of toilet paper on his butt? That is what I imagine is going on down there when it starts to grow back.

I like my men with a little hair. Back hair I am not fond of. DH gets 2 or 3 and makes me pull them out with tweezers. He has mild to moderate chest hair. Just the way I like it. Now his man parts are a little hairier than I prefer. He will not manscape because he doesnt understand what tools to use. I offered to do it and he let me do it ONCE. He said he felt dumb. I thought it was funny. Ladies, Imagine your DH standing there nude with one leg up on a chair in the Captian Morgan''s Rum pose pleading that you be careful with those scissors. PRICELESS!
