Because it is the safest mode of transport. The goods that are insured are signed for each and every time they leave someone''s hands. It is not the fastest method but it is the safest.

that can be an option for Fedex and UPS deliveries too!

Other service do not accept insurance from the public, I think above $2-500. So what are you going to do if it get lost on route? They won''t take the responsibility.

UPS and FedEx only cover up to $500 for "luxury" items, which includes jewelry. You can lie and insure the package for thousands, but if it is lost or damages you must prove the value of the contents. Jewelry vendors can set up contracts with UPS and FexEx to get around this. It''s explained on ther websites.

Most jewelers have 3rd party insurance that covers FedEx and/or UPS couriers. This means they can ship out for fast delivery using these carriers and be covered by their own insurance rather than the crappy excuse for insurance that the carriers offer. USPS is different. USPS registered mail is very secure if a little bit slow and their insurance is approaching reasonable. Since consumers don’t ship much of this sort of thing it doesn’t make sense for them to buy the 3rd party insurance and this leaves USPS as the best return method even though it’s not the one they use for the outbound shipments.

Another security reason for using the USPS is the fact that if anything goes missing it is instantly a federal matter. This is especially vital for the kind of inter-state commerce that we Pricescopers are engaging in. If a package is lost, I dont want to have to file multiple claims with local and state police. I haven''t lost any packages, so this is mostly a non-issue, but I can definitely see the benefits of working primarily with the USPS.

HI All!
We use a company called Parcel Pro- which is a third party insurance company such as Neil mentioned.
They allow you to use either FedEx or UPS. However they prefer you to use UPS.

The insurance is discreet- which is important. The UPS or FedEx employees do not know what''s in the package, or how much it''s worth.

ParcelPro will work with consumers

Personally I''ve always felt FedEx was slightly better to deal with...but we''ve found that UPS is extremely efficient at getting the package there next day.

Hope this helps!!
