Why aren''t there more square radiants?

I''ve been searching the net for square radiants and it just doesn''t seem like there are many out there.

Is there something that makes it harder to cut radiants square than cutting other shapes (aascher, etc) square?

If not, is there a reason I''m only finding rectangles? It seems like everyone on Pricescope is only looking for squares, so why do they cut so many rectangles?!?

(I''m sure there''s a perfectly good explanantion for this, but I''m relatively new to this all!)

WHAT I THINK YOU SHOULD ASK FOR IS A PRINCESS CUT WITH CUT CORNERS.


THEIR IS A TON OF THEM OUT THERE AND YOU CAN PROBABLY PICK THEM UP AT 10-15% CHEAPER THAN RADIANTS,SINCE THEY ARE SLIGHTLY MORE BUILT UP.

Even finding a nice SQUARE princess with corners cut off can be difficult...they were prob cut off for a reason.

Right now GOG only has rectangular ones, but they can get you a list of square ones if you email Marie.
Solomon Bros has lots of squares, as does Whiteflash.

The original Radiant Cut was rectangular, so that might be why there are so many out there.
Its a rough search that I begun myself, so I completely sympathize with you! Keep looking, don't be afraid to call jewelers up and say that you're looking for 1:1.05s and below. A lot of online vendors have access to stones that aren't listed on their inventories...for various reasons.

Square radiants are so elusive...The damnd increases, but the supply dwindles. Finding a square radiant is hard enough, but finding a WELL CUT box radiant is even tougher. All I can say is try every single store on-line that sells diamonds. I visited two diamond dealers that didn't have it listed, but they came up with a few in stock when I called them. Also, if you have local jewelers, try them.

My friend recently saw a beautiful square radiant at a consignment shop, but it was gone before she could go back...

If you are really stuck, see if Martin from USACerteddiamonds.com can help. He has good connections in NYC, as does DirtCheapDiamonds.com. You may have to wait for them to cut one for you, or see if one pops up from inventory, as they tend to ship them around from show to customer...etc...Good luck and PATIENCE!!!

The cut-corner princesses are great cash savers per carat - but not very large stones (deep and bulky under girdle).

No idea what the original Rad was supposed to look like, but their makers (www.radiantcut.com) seem to apply their patented cut recipe to squares as well as rectangles. Those stones are not really among the most bon-marche, but it might be worth giving them a call...

And there are a couple of square radiants appearing now and then at diamondsbylauren.com (mostly yellows, but some very beautiful whites too). This shop does not operate 'lists', so there are only a few stones at a time, but who knows what an E-mail could bring? As far as I know the owner believes that the beauty of diamonds has naught to do with math (no shopping by numbers). However, the different philosophy does not necessarily bad diamonds make. Worth a try, as far as I know.

Ok, just to mention, I DO NOT like that people have these cut cornered princesses being passed off as Radiants. Know that they are princesses with cut corners. Look at the Certs and see the pavillion cut patterna dn see how they ARE princesses. A princess is cut deep and with a large table, low crown, etc...a radiant IS NOT!

A radiant is cut like an emerald, with higher crown angles, since it's table should be smaller than the depth, and it should basically be a round brilliant bottom, with an emerald shaped or square shaped top. It has a very distinctive pattern.

Online sellers DO sell radiants, and as many of them don't shop by numbers, I would just be warey of buying anything you can't see first. To me, those numbers help you weed out the uglies, and they REALLY helped us!!! I personally would never buy a radiant sight unseen, because the differences in cut and quality of these stones, is like night and day!!!

Thanks for the input. I don't think I want a princess with the corners cut off because the reason I switched from wanting a princess to wanting a radiant in the first place is that the princess didn't sparkle enough for me (and I did start liking mitered corners as well)

Oddly enough, while I'm generally not that impressed with Blue Nile, I checked last night and they did have a pretty good supply of radiants with ratios of 1.04 and lower. (and you can actually sort this list by ratio!) When you start looking for a table under 70, etc, etc. it becomes a much smaller supply, but at least it's a place to start. I also am going to make an appt. with a shop around here to look at some flanders brilliants etc. (I'm not dead set on radiant...as noted in some other posts I like radiant, flanders, QOH, and maybe Lucere. Regent is too rounded for me)
