Sorry if this is a duplicate post from the past. I was reading a grading post earlier today and it said that EGL Europe is bad? Just curious why. My diamond cert. is EGL USA, so I am safe, but this really has my curiosity up. Can anyone explain it to me? What makes EGL Europe a bad cert? Are they inaccurate? Inquiring minds want to know! Thanks!!!

EGL certs tend to be graded a bit more "leniently" than GIA or AGS, which is why people here tend to not rely on an EGL as being a realistic cert. It often is 1-3+ grades lower from GIA/AGS, compared to EGL, IGI, etc.

A subject like this will pop up many hits in the friendly ol' search box in the upper right.

I think I understand. So what EGL Europe may say is a vvs2 H could actually be more stringently graded as a vs2 J by GIA?

It's possible. No one can say decisively without having the specific diamond to judge, but in general GIA/AGS are thought to be 1-2 grades stricter in color/clarity than EGL-abroad.
