Attending work events at his company is like an object lesson in the shallower end of evo-psych speculation about how men value aesthetic appeal while women value earning power and social dominance. Though I will say ... since I've never met a man I was more attracted to, and he was initially drawn to my quippiness, word-store, and endless well of useless trivia ... it's a matter of perception, isn't it. A lot of the time, these things are just a matter of self-fulfilling prophecy.

I forgot about accent. Australian is indeed quite sexy, you are lucky. J is an Englishman living in Scotland. His loud, braying Home Counties accent takes thousands of points off him.

I think we are pretty evenly matched as far as level of attractiveness goes. We are often told that we are a beautiful couple by random strangers. Hey...I'll take the ego boost, thankyouverymuch.

I know, Kenny, no need to be defensive! I just find the topic interesting to muse on. After all, the whole concept of "the male gaze" posits a certain advanced degree of performativity in femininity. Looks like the two polls bear that out, since thus far, most respondants feel their intellect is tied with their spouse's, but that they (on this mostly female board) are statistically more attractive than their partners ....

As for the poll, I'd say we're tied! Most people typically end up with someone who is as attractive as they are. There have actually been studies done (I learned about them in College Round 1 so couldn't tell you the researchers, though) and if you're a 7 you usually end up with a 7, etc.

Physically, I think we're fairly evenly matched, though he disagrees with me (he thinks I'm much more attractive, I think he's insanely attractive, we're learning to agree to disagree).

But I think attractiveness is also about drawing people to you, and we're fairly evenly matched there or he has the edge. He's just one of those happy people that other people can't help but start talking to. And he's freaking hilarious. So, actually, I'd probably say he's the winner there.

My DH is more attractive, hands down. I actually think of him as quite beautiful, although I know that's an odd description for a guy. We have similar face shapes and builds so I think that's part of the attraction.

That said, I'm aware that others wouldn't agree with my assessment! DH has shoulder-length red hair that is not to everyone's taste.
