I was born in the mid 1950''s during the post WWII “Baby Boom”. My parents were the typical farm people who left the rural life seeking work in the big city. I am the middle child. My brother is 9 and 1/2 years older, and baby sister is 5 and 1/2 years younger. Dad worked as a big rig mechanic while Mom stayed at home.

I was always a good student in school. During my High School years, I played several instruments in the band, sang in the choir, and participated in the theatre department. As a Senior, I received the Bausch and Lombe Award for Achievement in Math and Science. I was also selected to address our class as a speaker at graduation.

During the fall of my Junior year in college, Dad had to have surgery. The arteries carrying blood to his legs and feet had become blocked. Dad died due to complications from the surgery 6 months before he was going to retire.

Life was a blur for a while after that. I quit school to get a job and help out financially at home. Mom learned to drive, got her GED, and went to work. When I returned to college, I got involved in a campus Student Assistance group. I went to Lake Placid to work during the 1980 Winter Olympics. Spring break was spent helping families with painting and minor home repairs in Fayetteville, North Carolina. During the summer of 1980 I worked as a Youth Counselor in the Clark-Howell Techwood Development in Atlanta, Georgia.

The fall of 1980, I was working as an assistant to the Advanced Chemistry Professor. One day, a really cute Chemistry TA walked into my lab. We talked for 2 hours before I realized I needed to catch the bus to go home. He offered to give me a ride, but I didn''t get home until much, much later that night. We talked for hours, and became instantly inseperable. After a whirlwind 3 months, we got married. We were broke, but we were in love.

I have worked in Research and Development in the food industry. My first career position was working in R&D Engineering for a major beverage alcohol company. Then we became Corporate Gypsies. Several years and more than a few moves later, my last full time position was working in R&D for an institutional foods supplier. Soups, gravies, and entrees for restaurants, hospitals, and nursing homes. Since the kids were born, I have worked part-time or temped. I''ve also been actively involved in the PTA, Little League, and Athletic Boosters Club. I''ve served on the boards of several local charitable organizations.

When I was young, I was not interested in jewelry or gemstones. I wore the same simple yellow gold band for years, until I thought I''d lost it. Then I got a "fancier" diamond and emerald yellow gold band. Several years later, we added an "e-ring" with a pear shaped emerald center set stone. At some point, I got a pair of diamond stud earrings that I wore 24/7. I didn''t own many pieces of "real" gemstone jewelry, but I developed a hobby of cruising jewelry counters. I''ve been a closet jewelry enthusiast for years. Even though I didn''t know why, some diamonds were more appealing than others. Diamonds that sparkled and fired with lots of color really drew my eye. Before Christmas of 2002, I fell in lust with a diamond pendant at our local jeweler''s shop. I thought if I bought a really nice piece, I''d have an hierloom stone for my kids. I hesitated and hestitated until someone else bought it as a Valentine''s gift. My hesitation caused me to search the internet, where I found Price Scope.

PCQ, thanks for sharing yourself at last.

I'd really like to hear more about your kids, and life with them. 3 is a charm, huh? And look ma, no double dipping!
9.gif
How old are they? I may have missed some info on them from other threads, just trying to catch up.

Thanks for sharing and allowing us to know more about you. I have always thought you were so kind and patient when I read your all your posts and responses to questions.
12.gif
So patient to give so much detailed info to newbies like me when we asked q's that have already been posted here. Although I'm sorry someone bought your pendant, I'm glad that that's what brought you here to PS because I learn alot from knowledgable, frequent posters such as yourself.

"Closet jewelry enthusiast" ?!

After 1.2k posts and all the connoisseur flair you shower on Pricescope? Hard to believe....

Your story comes in handy: it is really nice to hear that someone survived one of those dangerous lab chats.

Thank you for telling us your story, PQ. As happened when I read the autobiographies of some other posters who described some of their core values and family life, I felt I really got to hear some of the important things about you, not just a few superfcial facts. Thank you for sharing so deeply.

Interesting PQ, thanks! What you left out is why you are PQcollectibles?

You were married for a while before having children as so many of my friends. My three best friends have 5 year olds! Funny, they what they lack in energy their patience & wisdom more than makes up for it.

PQ,

Great Story..I had you pegged for a much younger woman..

Your young at heart...It has been great talking with you and hope we can learn more about you...

Thanks all! I've been working on a suitable post for a while. Seems when you start writing, more and more detail gets added.

If there was one THING I could go back in time and bring to today, it would be this car. We had a 1957 Chevrolet!

This was taken soon after we got married. Don't ask about the outfit. It was "cool" in the day!

A really neat vacation, before kids came along. We camped on an island in the middle of Crowduck Lake, Manitoba Province, Canada. Our only neighbors were a beaver family. You can see their lodge on the left.

These are the only people we saw in an entire week out on the lake. They weren't as close as the pic makes them seem thanks to the telephoto lens.

Some of the absolute best Smallmouth Bass fishing anywhere!

PQ - thanks for sharing. Sounds like you've got a busy and fun life with three kids and lots of activities to keep you active.

Sorry about the loss of your dad at such a young age. My dad also died when he and I were young (he was only in his 30s and I was just a teen).

After we came off the lake, we went to Winipeg. We were both in need of a good hot shower and a nice meal. While we toured the capitol building and a wedding party came in. It was the "in" thing to shoot wedding party photos in the capitol building. Out in the parking lot, we found the Newly Wed's car. I've never seen anything like the detail of this decorating job!

Dad says "Hi" to his new son and our first child.

It was tough for quite a while for all of us, Michelle. My one big regret is that Dad didn't get to meet my husband and see our kids. Dad loved kids and he would have enjoyed our 3 immensely!

I can only imagine how you felt then as well!

The name came from the hobby of coin collecting. PQ stands for Proof Quality. We have a rather interesting collection of circulated coins, currency, notes, and even some foreign monies. Most of the pieces have sentimental value to us. My first grade teacher gave me a silver dollar for perfect attendance. Hubby's dad passed on some coal mine script. Nothing to make a serious collector envious. But I liked the name!

Ahh - proof quality = PQ - should have caught that one. Coins collectors are more anal/geeky than Print collectors.

Hubby's got that bug a bit.

Do you fish still?

Editted to add - cool & relaxing pics. And yes, I, too, remember that fashion statement.

Dear Pqcollectibles,
Hey, sorry to be so out of the loop. Just read your bio so I'll put in my two cents now. Sorry to hear that your father passed away when you were young.
14.gif
On a brighter note, I loved the pictures of your adorable kids when they were young, and then it was wonderful to see your kids all grown up. What a big change!
eek.gif
I was a little confused on your age since I thought the avatar picture was you. Is your avatar a pic of you? If it is you...you look really young. But then again I saw Winyan's picture, and I thought that picture was of her when she was a teenager. To my suprise, Winyan just has awesome genes and she naturally looks young. Boy I just don't know how people look so great. I guess you gals are the lucky ones who grow up gracefully. Oh, I also want to thank you for your patience and advice that you and the others have given to me when I posted up some questions. Thank you for your advice and support. You are truly a gem! Continue to keep us enlightened. Best wishes to you and your family now and always.

Just wanted to say Hi

from another Kansas City resident (actually Overland Park, but basically the same!).

Love your pictures. My SO was born in the 50's so I hear alot about that era and the cool cars that his dad drove.

I am a generation Xer so it is interesting to have a different point of view around. Luckily he is very young at heart and open minded, so he doesn't have too hard of time keeping up with me. (or is it me keeping up with him?

Anyway, nice to know there is another KC diamond lover on PS!

Hey Amant!! Hello for the "Show Me" side of the state line!!
wavey.gif
Good to know there's another KC person on PS!!

The TV show, "American Dreams" would offer you good insight into your SO's youth. I really enjoy it, when I get to see it. So much of that show, Band Stand, Vietnam,.... was so much a part of our lives when we were younger.
