Thank god we can skip over commercials nowadays, but I just ended up catching one that has me . It's for a medication used to treat AIDS... and all of the people featured in the commercial are black or a gay stereotype! Not a white woman or a "straight" white man in sight. Even the voice narrating the commercial is made to have the stereotypical gay lisp.

Ummm. I'm speechless.

:knockout::knockout::knockout:

Yeah.

I swear missy, my stomach can't take any more. I thought we were moving forward as a society, albeit very slowly. I can't believe how backwards we still are.

I hear you and am right there with you. Disgusted by society in general. I keep hoping we can only go up from here but I know it can always get worse. Omg what times we are living in right now.:blackeye: Man’s inhumanity to man. Alive and well.
That’s why I prefer animals to most people.

Is this in the US?

Shocking!

Yes tyty, the US

I'm with you on the animals missy!

HI,

I just heard Aids is affecting and infecting the black community the most. Perhaps the ads are targeting such.

Ignorant!!!:angryfire:

Did I wake up in the wrong decade?

That shouldn't happen. My youngest works in advertising. I always try to imagine how "creative" comes up with some of the things we see. I would like to know what the pitch was on that. Someone totally missed the mark!

Is there not an Advertising Standards Agency you can complain to in the US?

In the UK advertising is very tightly regulated.

I'm not sure I understand or agree with this complaint. Marketing is based on targeting specific demographics based on statistics in many cases.

Are you guys saying that (for example) Playtex brassiere ads need to include every gender just to be inclusive? Stereotyping exists. It exists in marketing/advertising for a reason. You can get het up about it all you want but companies who are selling a product will always target specific audiences based on who is going to buy said product. If you do a google image search for Triumeq you will find that the people featured in the ads represent closely the cdc statistics.

Wow, I always though of HIV crossing all social economic, race, sexual, and gender lines but those stats put it in prospective. I wonder how
gay people feel about the commercial? Are they fine with it or is it upsetting how they are presenting it?
