This is terrible, I really hope they catch who did it

BISMARCK – Retired Hollywood actor Ken Wahl on Tuesday said he has offered to donate the Golden Globe award he won in 1990 to a growing reward for information to find and convict whoever glued a cat to state Highway 60 in southwestern Minnesota.

Wahl said he offered the award he won for the TV show “Wiseguys” because he was appalled to learn that someone had glued a cat to the road by its nose and feet and was worried that whoever did it could be dangerous.

“A lot of people think it’s just a cat, it’s no big deal, but the thing is, remember, this is how Jeffrey Dahmer started,” he said in a telephone interview from his Southern California home, referring to the infamous Milwaukee serial killer who had tortured animals as a child.

Travelers found the 7-month-old orange tabby on Dec. 18 and took it to the Second Chance Rescue Center across the South Dakota border in Sioux Falls. The cat died five days later despite the efforts of veterinarians to save it.

Rescue Center Director Rosey Quinn said donations from across the country had pushed the reward fund to about $12,000. The reward money is for information leading to a conviction in the case.

Wahl said he donated money to the fund but also wanted to do something that would bring more attention to the case.

“It’s certainly easy enough to write a check, but to give something of yourself that’s a symbol of your accomplishment, is something I thought would catch people’s attention more,” he said.

Quinn said the rescue center had received a tip Tuesday and that she planned to contact law enforcement officers in Minnesota, where she said the cat was found around 30 miles west of Mankato.

State Patrol Sgt. Jaci Sticha said any investigation likely would be turned over to the county because it would not involve a vehicle crash. Watonwan County Sheriff Gary Menssen said he had not been contacted and did not have an active investigation.

“Wiseguy” ran on CBS from 1987 to 1990. Wahl played a federal agent who infiltrates the mob. He won the Golden Globe in 1990.

Quinn said Wahl’s offer to donate it is “huge.”

“Someone of his reputation that’s willing to step up to the plate and help us figure out what happened to this kitty, I think it’s wonderful, it’s amazing,” she said.

Here''s a picture of the kitty

His name was Timothy

I know in the past I''ve admitted I''m not fond of cats, but this is awful.

Anyone who hurts an animal is a psycho and a loser. Pick on someone who can fight back! This is how serial killers get their first taste of killing.

I can''t even imagine how that poor cat felt with all those fast cars whizzing by
It''s making me cry

And let''s not forget- when they found this cat....it was during the giant blizzard that hit the midwest around Christmas time. Minnesota got something like 2 feet of snow total. Just sad

people truly are sick. I hope they catch this awful person.

O....M....G. I absolutely HATE hearing stuff like this. Just breaks my heart.. poor kitty.

Oh my God, poor little Timothy. Was he somebody's pet?

It infuriates me when people torture animals. And the fact that Timothy looks like my Archie-cat makes this really hit home.

I can't believe people didn't stop when they saw him.

(ETA: Obviously, I'm excluding the guy who DID stop!)

Things like this get me to a point where I hate people.

One reason I come here is to remind myself that there are still loving, caring people in the world.

I couldn''t even make it half way through. That is so sad. That poor kitty. I can''t imagine. It just makes me think if that was one of mine. I hope they find the guy that did and glue him to the road. I would be line to run him over. I have so much more compassion for animals. They are defenseless against jerks like that.

Unbelievably cruel and sickening.

That is absolutely sickening. Back in the old days, before people relied on law enforcement as the solution for everything, wife beaters, animal abusers, child abusers, etc. might very well find themselves beaten with axe handles or tarred and feathered and dumped into an alley or out beyond the outskirts of town to fend for themselves, with orders to not return to that town or it would be worse the next time. And nobody ever worried about those "victims" rights.

In the Lincoln Park zoo, there is a display that has the sign "World''s most Dangerous Animal".
You look into the display, and it is a mirror

. I agree, stuff that that makes my blood boil, people who cause suffering to get some kind of kick, those people need to be weeded out of the gene pool.

radiantquest, your avatar gives me the creeps. There's no way to PM you, so don't think I am taking you to task publicly or anything. But clothes dryers can be another awful death scene for cats. I just think it's a bad idea to allow yours to rest in there. You may watch out for him but careless kids, spouse, petsitter, or babysitter may not. It's best to keep cats out of clothes dryers. There are some heartbreaking stories on cats killed by being accidentally left in a dryer. Sometimes people even heard the thumping but didn't go check, and found their beloved pet dead. I can't look at a pic of a cat in a dryer and not want to scream "NO!"

This is horrible!!! I love cats and animals in general, and cannot imagine someone doing this. Remember animal mutation, cruelty is one of the signs of a sociopath.

Punishments should be far more harsh than they currently are for this type of crime. Makes me ill.

Oh my gosh, that story made me nauseous.

I really don''t understand how people can do things like that.

Pets are so sweet, loving and trusting of us

I hate hearing of animal cruelty. It makes me so sad to hear of these poor defenseless animals being hurt!

Um, that''s rude...

My god - they're worried that whoever did such a senseless, deliberately cruel thing to an innocent creature "could" be dangerous?? You'd have to be heartless and completely devoid of empathy to consider something like that! What a DISGUSTING excuse for a human being.

He's such a sweet looking kitty

I don't think it's rude at all. I didn't attack her. Some people are not aware of the hazard and how often it kills cats. Some women have beloved cats that their husbands and children don't watch out for. If there were a way to PM, I'd have PM'd. There is not, so I posted it. Not rude at all. What other choice is there? I'd much rather be called rude than read another tragic story of a cat killed in a dryer.

sick sick sick. Kids and animals-how can anyone hurt them? I just don''t get it. When we were getting our house sided over the summer, the guy who was doing it was outside talking to JD one day and I happened to come out to visit too, and he was telling JD about a website of a guy (not sure if it''s around here, or where) who hates cats, so he goes out looking for them, kills them and puts the hides on his garage wall. I''m pretty sure that''s what he said. I just stared at him, and he''s like "Um, I take it you like cats?" And yes, I have a vast love for cats, the subject was quickly changed. I just don''t understand it. People think that''s funny.

Who would admit, let alone DO that?! Karma is nasty for people like that, that''s all I can say...

So perhaps a better approach would just be to say "Be careful of letting your cat play in a dryer" not "Your avatar gives me the creeps." It just comes off as rude to me, even though the intention is good.

I know it! He said the guy had a website about it, and I just can''t believe that it wouldn''t get shut down..right? I mean, wouldn''t that be considered cruelty or torture?? I wanted to look for it to raise a fuss about it..but I don''t want to actually see anything.

I was ticked at JD too for even talking about it. I grew up in a hunting/trapping family and JD does it too-but not cats-not pets, not domesticated animals. JD never used to care for cats, until we got together and I wanted one. The first one we got (and still have) was a stray that had no idea she used one of her 9 lives crossing a field out by JD''s house one day when he and a friend were out driving around. His friend *hates* cats and saw her in the field and wanted JD to pull over so he could shoot her, and JD said no, it could be a kids pet, and I''d been hounding him about getting one, so he didn''t feel right about it. Well, when he got back to his house, that cat had found the garage/barn at his rental house, and was using it for a hideout from the coyotes. Now, Bella has become JD''s cat, and when someone says they don''t like cats, he brings up Bella''s story.

Ooo that was a bit long winded..sorry. I get all worked up about cats!

OK, let me first say that I was a little shocked about someone feeling creeped out about my avatar, but let me tell you that he does not hang out in the dryer. Both of them have been known to get in and lay on the warm clothes so I always leave the door shut until I am ready to get the clothes out (usually because it is running) and then shut it again when I am done. The only reason he was in there that time is because I was doing laundry alone in the house and DH came home so I met him at the door. We talked for a minute or two, I went back and there he was. He can''t help himself. If I had carried the clothes to the bed to fold them he would have been there.

Although I think that the post from HVVS was harsh, I can understand in light of the current thread. I love my pets and am very careful with them. Pink, thank you for coming to my defense. I appreciate it and hopefully HVVS can feel better about it now that it is clear that he was/is in no danger.

I agree, sometimes pepper will jump in when I going to grab something and I''ll turn back around and there he is sitting in there. He''s so plump and jolly it''s hard not to miss him lol. Then he gets a "you get out of there!!" with the firm pointed finger! Otherwise ours is always shut :) We always check if we hear a thumping anyways because pepper has to discovered how to open the cupboards in our kitchen and sometimes we will find him sleeping by the pots and pans (under the sink with cleaning stuff has the baby locks on it, how sad is that that we have to do that! lol)

Stories like this are so sad, I just cannot understand hurting an animal

That''s horrible. A few years ago, where I''m from some guys kidnapped a woman''s Yorkie and set him on fire in a BBQ pit and videotaped the whole thing. It just makes you sick.
