Who was it?

It was Colonel Mustard, with the wrench in the library!!

Pretty stone, ebay snipers annoy me so much haha

Lol. Maybe it was Miss Scarlet in the Kitchen with the Rope?

I was watching the countdown and the bid jumped up with like 5 seconds left. I tried to rebid, but there just wasn't time. That's why I wondered if it was some kind of robot. The same bidder won several stones that just ended. I was actually glad to be outbid on a few of them, ha ha. But that tourmaline really wanted me to buy it - I swear it did!

Ha! I know who! It's a green stone, so it must have been Mr. Green with the lead pipe in the Conservatory :P

It wasn't me (I'm *trying* to stick with my ban, at least until I get a few of my projects completed)
But have you bought from Uli before ~ he's SO NICE!
It may be that he has some of the same material and can cut you a piece!!!!!!!!!
Ask Him!

Not a bad idea except I really ought to have a ban myself. Somehow I justify small bids on little stones. Maybe he'll post something similar? :Up_to_something:

K, so maybe e-bay isn't for me. The other little round I got attached to was just stolen out from under me, too. ;( Sigh.

same thing has happened to me in the past week, with seconds to go a new bid comes in......can only identify the culprit as t**t. same id has gotten me with three sellers ;( i do admit there were two items from another seller that i really, really, really wanted and would have bid higher but there was no time........

Yeah, this was the same buyer as last night - u***u. I think that t***t bid on a few I had also bid on.

I shouldn't have gotten attached, and probably wouldn't have, but I won this little round rhodolite and then bid on a few more little rounds and made up a cheap stacking ring project in my head. Yeah, I got a little ahead of myself. :?

I've only managed to win the little rhodolite and then an oval chrysoprase that I had bid on before I made up the small round stacking project. NO idea what to do with the oval.

there will be plenty more stones you do not have to give up you plan for a bunch of stackers. I was having a similar attachment disorder to the trilliants which I wrongly assumed would not go for much since being trilliant they are harder to set and less popular. I got only one of the 3 I was heart-set on (trilliant hessonite), but I know that next week or the week after there will be more and I will persevere. Osiris already has more auction listings so you can look those over in the mean time. You will get the stones you want, just maybe not all at once.

That is a little trick called "sniping". You wait until the last few seconds of the auction to place your bid in the hope that others won't have time to outbid you.

There is really only one defense and that is to have a higher max bid. When you place a bid, put in what you are truly willing to pay for the stone. The bid doesn't automatically jump to your max bid (unless someone has already placed a higher max bid). It is incremented each time a bid is placed. If your max bid remains the high bid, it will continue to stay that way till the auction ends. At that point, when someone "snipes" in a bid at the last second, your autobid will automatically override theirs (assuming their bid isn't higher). If they have outbid you, then they are paying more for the stone than you were willing to so you haven't really lost.

EBay is a bit of a game with strategy involved. I have been guilty of sniping a few times myself. If you watch how the auctions work, you will almost always see that the vast majority of bids take place in the final minute of the auction. When you really want a stone, keep this in mind. Yeah, it isn't very fun to get snioped, but it can be a little more fun when you are the sniper.

VapidLapid - I was watching a few of those trillions myself! In fact, I got outbid on a couple that I had initially bid on but was actually relieved because I had made up that little round stacker project and wasn't sure what to do with the trillions after all.

Revolution - I figured there was some trick to it.

I'll just have to try my hand at some more.

I don't do much bidding on ebay anymore, but when I do, I use the technique Revolution described. When I decide to bid on something I decide on the price I'm willing to pay. I enter that max bid, confirm it, then I click away and don't go back until the auction is over. Only once have I actually ended paying that max bid, and when I don't win the item I have absolutely no regret, because, IMO, the person who won it paid too much--that's my story and I'm sticking to it. A side benefit of bidding that way is I'm less likely to get super attached emotionally to the outcome. Works for me, anyway.

I'm a sniper lol. I always bid at 5 seconds left....and win. Bwahahahahaha. But I didn't bid on your stone though.

Won a few, lost a few. I typically up the bid a little bit a few minutes before the last couple of minutes--if I've been outbid. Kind of fair warning to others.

I lost a star sunstone of Tan's that I may have later regretted purchasing, but it sure had me drooling over it's flashy orange coolness. Got sniped at 2 seconds. I've got a fast clicker, but not that fast! I felt good that they paid more than they probably wanted when I didn't get it...I would have paid more than I initially wanted...did anyone here get it? :Up_to_something:

If so...pictures please!

Lately I've been putting in my max bid at that time and holding my breath...and my finger. Sometimes I just forget to check back though.

Oh...and I did not bid on your stone either!
