I dipped a toe in the deep end. I have bad skin. It’s always inflamed and reactive and I can calm it down and then it goes crazy again. Dermatologists make it worse because it doesn’t react to whatever like they assumed it would.

It’s been pretty baseline for me, so I decided that maybe a crazy expensive product might be worth it, so I chatted online with a rep and because I have oily skin, she recommended instead of creme de la mar, for me to buy the cooling gel la mer. (Sam thing I think but for oily skin). I also received a few samples— the oil, the miraceller water and something else (not at home at the moment).

I’ve been using the creme for a week and my face looks amazing. It’s looking like I might have actually kicked whatever was wrong in the butt. I also LOVE the water, so I just bought a full size of that too. (So $195 for the creme and now $95 for the water).

I was thinking about adding one more product— nothing heavy or strong. I wondered if anyone had a recommendation? (Live chat isn’t available until tomorrow).

As an aside, I also bought a Chanel V Flash serum to wear under make up for when I want to look fresh and revitalized. I have not received that yet.

Where are the La Mer people? Thanks!

If you are looking for another one to buy the treatment lotion is supposed to be one of the better products. I used to love it, but developed rosacea after having a child so cant use La Mer any more at all (its almost all full of essential oil and fragrance). 20201012_081048.jpg

Thank you. I’ll go look it up. I’m sure your wallet appreciates the turn of events for you....

Haha sadly its rather the opposite. La Mer is a lot cheaper than soolantra + appointments for the perscription.

Hi Qubitasaurus, I developed Rosacea as well in the first few years after having my daughter. I now control it with diet. Mine is diet related. Too many amines, histamine containing and histamine releasing foods cause a flare up for me. It might be worth investigating food chemical sensitivities if you haven’t already. I did a really boring elimination diet and viola, rosacea was gone within the week. Now I just need to be careful to not overfill my bucket with my problematic food chemicals. Good luck =)2

Would you tell me a few of these foods you have to avoid? Thanks.

Sure I can give you some. This was copied from a site ascrocs.com

“Histamine triggers the immune response and increases the permeability of small blood vessels. Because of these effects, it is thought to make rosacea symptoms worse. Any fermented or aged foods are naturally high in histamine. Histamine containing foods include cheese, sauerkraut, wine, soy sauce, tofu, eggplant, and canned fish. Some foods although not containing histamine, can cause the body to release histamine from mast cells. These are the foods that many people are allergic to, such as bananas, tomatoes, nuts, shellfish and chocolate.Foods high in niacin. Foods high in niacin also tend to cause flushing.”

“Not every person experiences the effect from every food, fortunately, or we would have nothing left to eat! Keeping a food diary can be helpful to identify food triggers. Other triggers such as overheating from outside sources or emotional stress can be noted in the same diary.”

Google the following for a medical journal article on it:

Diet and rosacea: the role of dietary change in the management of rosacea
Emma Weiss and Rajani Katta

sorry for big text, straight copy and paste.

Also Google “swiss interest group histamine intolerance”

they have extensive food lists.

best thing to do is find a dietitian who knows how to do an elimination diet looking for food chemical sensitivities. They can help you if it is too confusing to do it by yourself.

for me it’s too many amines, histamine containing, histamine releasing foods plus glutamates. Oh well, at least all the fresh vegies I eat keep me trim (but I can’t eat all vegies either). There’s a silver lining to everything right?

Better go..... I have that dreaded thing called work to do.

Have you tried Avene products? I have sensitive skin & rosacea and someone recommended Rich Recovery Cream and it's honestly been a miracle for me! I now always keep a tube of it in the fridge. It's fairly basic formula wise but very soothing. Also a lot cheaper than Le Mer

Well, for me, with oily skin, usually anything called rich is too much for my skin.

Maybe for qubitasaurus

Whoops I feel like I caused this thread to derail, sorry guys!

Yelena yes I am triggered by food -- soy sauce, alcohol, chilli, tomato sauce, sugar and penut butter to name a few. But also sunglight, smells especially from cleaning fluids. And of course almost all cosmetics. I dont seem to be able to avoid the sugar part, but I keep working on it. Maybe if I can get that under control I will enlist a dietician. My derm has been great, and has gotten me to do a lot of this over the last few years already, but I would like it to be gone.

Thanks GilderPoss, I will give it a go :).

I use Avene Skkin recovery cream as well. The normal (lighter weight) in the spring through to autumn then the rich one in winter time when the humidity is low.

Good luck Q-Saurus. I am glad you know there’s a dietary component to it. I haven’t eliminated sugar completely, just managed to cut it back a lot.

@whitewave have you had patch testing? You might be able to figure out what flares you and what you can safely use.

I am glad La Mer is working for you so far. I have a few friends who cannot tolerate La Mer. I believe it has many ingredients that have the potential to cause reactions. I have never tried it. I use products with a minimum of ingredients to help prevent flaring my super reactive sensitive skin.

I use La Roche Posay Ultra Toleriane Fluide to moisturize
La Roche Posay Dermo Cleanser
Avene Thermal Spray

Good luck on your quest and I would definitely consider in the future patch testing. As soon as the pandemic is over I might do it myself.

Like @Yelena @GliderPoss @qubitasaurus I have made changes in the food I eat and that has helped a bit.
About a decade ago I cut out dairy and it made a big difference. A few years ago I cut out gluten, soy, artificial sweeteners, added sugar, alcohol, peanuts and most other nuts etc and while I am not sure if that has helped or not knock wood I am doing OK skin wise. I have also stopped using harsh ingredients and choose products that are hypoallergenic and that have fewer ingredients and I avoid known irritants.

Me too, I do the same thing! I also have rosacea... for me, the Avene cream doesn't reduce the redness, but I like it because it feels soothing to my skin, when some other products cause stinging and irritation. I also had to switch to a physical block facial sunscreen (also an Avene product by chance) for the same reason.

Sorry OP - I know you were asking about La Mer. Personally, I have no experience with those products! :)

I use a prescription moisturizer called Epiceram that is for eczema and atopic dermatitis. I have neither but my skin is sensitive, oily for my age, and often dehydrated. I love it!!! It is a barrier cream and comes in a light cream and a richer one. This cream has been a lifesaver!

Ok I did live chat this morning with Le Mer and this is what I bought— they give you 2 free samples anyway and if you spent $300, they had some kind of “small miracles” promotion.

So now I’m like $600 into this brand lol.

like I said, I can’t get over how good my skin turned around in a week.

Costco will occasionally offer La Mer on their site. I've not tried their products yet but it be a savings for you. I'm happy your happy with your results!

I love the La Mer moisturizing creme but that’s all I’ve used from them. Just a heads up for future purchases: Bloomie’s carries many La Mer products and often has sales.

Oh @missy I have had patch testing with no luck or answers

I really like some La Mer products, particularly their eye Concentrate and Genaissance de la mer eye cream. The face cleansing gel is nice, and the soft creme and the gel creme moisturizers are good too. I'm just not sold on all the serums.

I am so glad you found something that works for you.

I sadly also love La Mer. I use the concentrate and the creme works on my dry skin (autoimmune issues). The other creams/gels aren't heavy enough for me. I'm trying hard to find an alternative though because I can't quite get over how much it costs.

I believe they have a lighter version too. :read:
