My new-ish favorite boxed chocolate is See''s candies. http://www.sees.com/Cat.cfm/Custom_Mix. They have the most delightful flavors (coconut buttercream, mmm), and they are so light, airy and fresh! We don''t have a store near us, but Lord and Taylor carried them a few years ago. I will order some on-line this year, I think.

What''s your favorite boxed chocolate?

Hmmm locally, Gail Ambrosius (Madison, WI)-her chocolates are amazing.

More mass market-Vosges.

I like Dove dark chocolate. It''s just so smooth and creamy!! Mmmmmm....

For stuff you can buy at the store I like Lindt and their Lindor truffles, but for local (well local at home in MI, not here in the wilds of MN) I like Santo Stefano del Lago in Grand Haven, MI. Their a small Italian shop that sells handmade chocolates, espresso, gelato, homemade pastas & sauces, etc.

In fact last Easter my FIL sent us a box of See's candy and I had been on a chocolate ban but the moment I saw the box I knew I had to lift the ban. haha

I called him up and said dam* you and he laughed his butt off because he completely empathized and is so getting a box from me now. haha I think it is the slight butter taste which makes it so delicious! Also, this Christmas I mailed some See's candy to family members and I was so tempted to rip open a box but didn't.

I also love those Guylian hazelnut seashells...
or those Ferrero Rocher chocolates.
Basically I love anything that''s chocolate hazelnut!!

Shout out to all the See''s ladies! Loves Vintage, Skippy, Bliss, starryeyed and iluvcarats, count me in! I know there are fancier chocolates out there, but See''s is probably the first chocolate I was ever exposed to (my aunt worked there when I was a baby) and it is still one of my all time faves. I love their almond truffles and summertime chocolates with the truffle-y centres and nutty outsides! Ooh and the scotch kisses. Mmmm. I realize there are umpteen fancier chocolatiers out there, but they have a fabulous selection and their chocolates are always so fresh and comforting. I also like Bernard Callebaut, which we have here in Canada.

I''m so glad there are a few See''s lovers out there, because I brought back a pound from San Francisco to throw into our office gift swap and my sister-in-law snorted at me and said, "Why would you do that, it''s not like it''s special or anything."

I wanted to wash her mouth out with soap on the spot. Granted, she has access to all kinds of organic farmers market chocolates, but at some point, all of those taste the same - dark and creamy inside, laced with saffron or chili, or grand marnier or whatever with gold leaf outside, but See''s is special and unique unto itself. I hoard my See''s whenever it gets sent to us from my family. I find it so hard to share!

Vosges and Leonidas. Vosges for tasty and unique flavors with chocolate and Leonidas for truffles, caramels, etc.

Now I want some...I''ll be going to the candy store tomorrow! My belly thanks you, Loves Vintage!

What''s your favorite boxed chocolate?

I''ve only heard of See''s cause I was watching some special on Warren Buffet and that''s supposedly his favorite.. or he owns a big portion of it.. or something to that extent.

I''ve never seen a See''s store.. I don''t think they have any in the Chicago area... at least that I know of.
But it sounds like I''m missing out! Seems to be a popular favorite..

I agree that Teuscher Chocolates is very yummy but locally the BEST chocolate around is Ingeborg''s Danish Chocolates in Solvang, CA.

Here is a link to their website: http://www.ingeborgs.com/. I believe you can order online / by phone and have it shipped to you). My friend makes chocolate covered strawberries for our office with Ingeborg''s chocolate and they are to die for.

Sees!

My mother was a nurse when I was a kid, and patients would often bring in Sees to thank the staff. So... I''m quite familiar with Sees! Apparently my mother used to anger her co-workers because she loved the marzipan, and could always tell the difference between that and the nougat, which llooks the same and isn''t nearly as popular.

On the other end of the sweetness spectrum, I also like ~70% cocao dark chocolate. Done right, it can even be savored with red wine. I get frequently get some smuggled in (
2.gif
) from Europe, but the ScharffenBerger''s is nearly as good -- and much easier to find!

La Maison du Chocolat, Pierre Marcolini!

Valrhona.

OMG I''d forgotten about See''s, but I used to walk by the store all the time when I was younger, and never tried it until I was in college. I LOVE their lollipops too - yum.

Apparently there''s a store downtown so I''m going to go treats-shopping tomorrow
9.gif

For local chocolates, my favorite is Fran''s. Her gray salt dark chocolate caramels are sweet and buttery and salty all at the same time. Yum.

Has anyone tried the Choxie brand from Target? It''s not gourmet or anything but they have this one bar with sea salt and nuts and its sooo good! And as far as gourmet goes... I don''t think I''ve had enough to really make an assesment. I''ll need to do some more research
