So as you all know, I’m currently disabled from needing a double total knee replacement (12/16) so I have an upright walker on 4 wheels and I’m on pain meds: Norco 7.5 that I have to take a Benadryl with because it gives me the itchy scratchies.

I’m making goofy decisions and I’m not precise and my thinking isn’t clear. (Makes for hella jewelry purchases though lol)

Disclaimer over :8

I decided to make the 4 ingredient artisan bread that has to rise for 18 hours. I put too much water in it against my better judgement. It looks like oatmeal. I added about 1/8 cup (maybe even less) of bread flour (the last of that) and it improved the texture only slightly and now I’m out of any kind of flour.

Is this going to come out? DH is going to bring me some flour in about 2 hours. Should I add it then?

Thanks.

See how it’s on the gooey side?

Try adding the flour later, it's worth a try to save it. Since it's supposed to rest and rise for a long period it may be OK. Is it a no-knead type recipie?

Right. Just let it sit for 18 hours.

Thanks, I agree. It shouldn’t need too much flour when I add more... it might not really affect anything.

my first thoight with anything like this is add oats
you get nice moist baking/bread and it soaks up some of the moisture
after cooking you can hardly tell the oats are in there

Unfortunately, since I haven’t been going anywhere, we have no oats. I do have some grits lol.

I don’t have anything that could be added in. Boo. Pandemic + 2 busted knees = dearth of groceries.

It was a good idea, though..... I love a good multigrain or 7 seed..

I have no clue what you should do.
If this happened to me I'd toss it out, and start over.

I think the most 'expensive' thing about making bread is all the time you spend.

It will be fine. I make artisan bread all the time. Use a bit of olive oil on your hands to handle it. Plop ot in a parchment lined Dutch oven that has been heated at 450 for 30 minutes. Trust me, don't add too much flour after the 18 hours.

its probably too late now (because i took a nap)
i had to google what grits were actually made from
they sound like they might have been ok to add

Ugh so true! How many times do i (or my son) go thru all the work of making dough only for it to fail? Sigh

I hope the bread is yummy; let us know what happens.
And i hope your recovery goes easily

I read through all the responses. I used to bake a lot of bread. Today I was just glad to read the opinions of people who would be less likely to ruin that loaf! Please post how it came out.

PS-I am sorry you are going through the aftermath of that knee surgery. I didn't know. I hope it makes your life a lot easier!

Deb

Thanks, everyone. It’s in the oven right now. While I would normally throw out as Kenny suggested, I just couldn’t see wasting such a thing a bread flour during these precious times lol.

It’s in the oven now. I’ll take a pic when done.

Deb, my surgery is next week. Yes, here’s hoping it’s the fix I need.

I'm curious as to how the inside looks and feels like.

I certainly hope it is the fix you need. I am sorry your wait is not over! The bread looks good to me, @whitewave!

I’ll take a pic. It’s not ideal, but it tastes good. It will make good French toast tomorrow morning.

all that love and effort im glad it turned out perfectly eatable
at the end of the day its taste that counts
