Beautiful family Nan. And your ''Angel''lo- LOVE those two bottom teeth! I am in cardiac ultrasound- and scanned an early Norwood procedure patient about 2 weeks ago...she is going strong! She is thinking about having a baby soon....so I will probably be part of the team tracking her through it all.

This forum is so nice, it is great to get a little glimpse of the others around here...losing some of the anonymity, but gaining some larger sense of community.
How old is this patient? From what I understand they have only been doing these procedures for a little over 20 years.
It''s so great to hear about the ''adults'' - gives us all hope for the future.

She is 19 (she had her surgeries from 1985-87, the first Norwoods were started in 1979). She is doing really well now, and they just want to try to figure out how the RV will handle the increased pulmonary pressures of pregnancy. She does realize it will be difficult, but wants to try.

Wow, that is simply amazing Jenwill. I hope everything goes well for her.
And from what I understand the majority of HLHS patients are boys.

At our local Children''s Hospital we now have one of the top Cardiovascular Surgeons in the world. Apparently he''s very fast and very efficient; getting these kids on and off bypass quickly.
He wasn''t there for Angello''s first two surgeries but he should be for the third (and hopefully final) one.
They are even building a whole new Cardiac ICU. It''s going to be an awesome facility.

That is great that you have such an excellent doctor in your area. We get alot of visitor to our area because of Lucille Packard Children''s at Stanford and UCSF- the Ronald McDonald houses here are nice and offer these traveling families a bit of respite from the hospital routine.

Here is a website of HLHS, with photos of some of the older kids....I know you probably have all sorts of sites you visit on your own, but it is always nice to see thriving post-op kids! http://www.hlhsinfo.homestead.com/Pictures2004.html

Thanks alot Jenwill- I am familiar with that site. It''s so comforting to see the "older" kids.
In the beginning all you do is research. The internet has a ton of info. It just scares the h*ll out of you. You know: "too much information....."

There was a yound lady who was a patient at our hospital and she was going to her prom. The dresses she liked revealed her "scar"- but she didn''t care. She felt "why should I try to cover it up?" I agree.

What a great attitude! Well, since the kids who had the original procedures are doing so well, and they have gotten so much better since then, it really seems as if things are looking so much brighter for the kids of today (like Angelo!) born with congenital defects.

It is great to know more about you, and your wonderful (if REALLY large- at least to this only child

) family!

7s1, I am in awe of your bio. Your family is absolutely *precious.* Your children are among some of the most beautiful I have ever seen. Not only because of their looks, but their faces exude love, contentment and joy. That can only come from a loving home and loving parents and siblings. Angelo is precious. I''ll bet he''s an angel on earth sent from God. I''ll just bet that.

Nan, thanks for sharing about your life, wonderful kids and the heart-wrenching story of Angello. Your 2 older kids are real good-lookers and the young ones are so adorable!

Wow sevens One, you are an inspiration. I have no idea how you can hold it all together like that.
From now on I will NEVER complain about being too busy again.

Thank you all for your kind words. It is nice to get to know everyone a little better here.

KMom- Before he was born we had not decided on his name. Well when things started taking a downward spiral I was rushed to come up with a name for him. And ofcourse my emotional state was quite unbalanced- Well my husband''s middle name is Nimrod which means Great Warrior (from the bible)- and my father being Italian; his first "given" name is Angelo.
So I thought nothing could be more appropriate for this little guy "Angelo Nimrod" my Angel Warrior.
Unfortunately in the midst of all the chaos I spelled his name wrong

.
Oh well- I didn''t realize it until later and it was too late. Believe me at this point with insurance and his looooong hospital record I''d be better off leaving well enough alone.

Nan, you have beautiful children! And while it''s impressive that you have 7, what is more impressive to me is that you had 4 little boys in a row, right?! What are their ages?

Your older daughter has an amazingly peaceful, beautiful face. Of course all of the children are gorgous!

I have a preschooler I''m teaching this year named Angelo. I love it. His Italian grandfather was Angelo.

I grew up the down the street from a girl named Diane, but her father always called her the Italian word for angel and I thought that was so sweet.

Sevens, thank you so much for sharing your beautiful story and family with us! You are amazing.

Yes my "little men" are something else. What a riot.

I had the last four in six years

- there ages are 7, 5, 3 and 18 mos.

With each pregnancy my oldest son's response was "You're pregnant, AGAIN???" I felt the love, I really did.
41.gif

I told him one day he'll appreciate all his siblings. I mean come on- he's already got a built in fan club. They can't get enough of him.

**It was so funny the other day when we got hit with snow, on Saturday, all the little kids were out playing with the 18 yr old. They were out for hours; playing, sledding, building forts and having snowball fights.

Later that night I thanked him for playing with his younger siblings for such a long time. He said: "We have the same goals!"
9.gif
9.gif

He's right- he's just a big kid at heart.

LOL on the "same goals!" And can you imagine the poor kid...Here he is a budding teenager discovering girls and what is the worst possible thing in the world to imagine, but the thought of his parents having sex?! And here you just had to keep reminding him of it!

I love that you call the little ones "the little kids." I grew up in a large family and to me, the "little kids" were the youngest 4, although my oldest brother insists that I was one of the "little kids!"

I feel like I''ve missed out on so much. I wish I had more brothers and at least a sister.

I know I''ve said it before but I can''t help but say it again..such a beautiful and loving family.

Sevens One/ Nan,

Your such an inspiration for others. Your children are beautiful, I love where your daughter is looking in the mirror, it reminded me of mine. You have been thru so much and yet you have come out ahead and your children are thriving. You should have your oldest child write you in for the mother of the year award, actually all of your children could say what they liked, you deserve it.

Keep the pix of those beautiful kids coming!!! They are lucky to have such a cool mom and such a FUNNY mom!!!

Thanks everyone.

Angelo will be thrilled to finally be rid of this bloody tube. He''s a "licker". He licks his food and throws it on the floor.
We''re hoping for big changes once the tube is clear of his face and throat.

Little Angelo looks full of spirit and happiness! He is one adorable little guy. I hope all goes well with the surgery.

Keeping you in my prayers,
