Who has filed their taxes?

I just filed. The IRS won't even start processing returns until the 30th. Even though we own a house, the standard deduction was higher than itemizing. Boy did that make for any easy return! Our refund ended up being twice as big as expected so that was a nice surprise. Has anyone else filed?

We've filed our state taxes (California) and should have our refund in a few more days. Our federal taxes are ready to be filed on the 30th. DH does them for us and we get a sizable amount back so no reason to delay! :))

Not yet, if we owe then we will file at the last min. We are still waiting on some documentation.

I do the same thing. When I owe they are filed around April 14...refund they are done ASAP.

Ahh, the beauty if no state income tax ='only one return to file!

DH and I haven't filed yet since we'll be hiring someone to help us out this year...we bought a house and moved states and just want to make sure we don't miss anything!

But we are the same way: refund? file early. owe? April 14th.

I filed my federal return but according to Turbo Tax, my California return can't be filed for a few more days because some of the paperwork isn't yet available from the state. I always file as soon as we have all of our forms because we tend to always get a refund.

Haven't filed yet but we owe every year. So it's not something I am super excited to do. If we even got 50 dollars from them, I would already be on top of it. We usually end up paying a size able amount. We need to start doing more charitable donations.

I am AFRAID of my taxes this year... :errrr: I've got a meeting scheduled with my accountant on Feb. 18 to discuss the damage... ;(

Still waiting on my w2. We have everything else we need, though. Hubby has been asking me nearly daily if I've gotten it yet.

Not yet. We haven't received some necessary documents yet and I'm still compiling information for deductions.

Not yet. I don't have my w2 yet which is unusual. Usually we've filed and have our return by now though this stupid waiting til jan 30 to process nonsense they're doing now is really bothering me!
I do still have to finish my "spreadsheet" of in and out for the business money but otherwise we should be ready when the w2s get here.

I HATE filing taxes. I have lived overseas for 7 years now, but legally must continue to file with the IRS indefinitely. I receive no benefits for which I would be taxed, and thankfully my income is still under the magical threshold at which I would actually be liable to pay taxes in BOTH countries. Again:  I still file nonetheless, a silly necessity that I resent. I get to file American taxes by April and Australian taxes by October - feels like I'm always just finishing or just starting bloody taxes!

I just finished ours and I am very sad :nono:

I got my W2 handed to me just now. I don't know when DH will get his. Last year he got his late.

Nope, I think we're going to owe this year so I'm waiting! :cheeky: I may go to an accountant just to be on the safe side. The older I get, the more complicated my taxes get! (But that's mostly because we earn more the older we get, so no complaints there! :cheeky: )

Seriously? That seems ridiculous.

Our taxes are fairly complicated, so we always have our CPA do them. So regardless of whether we pay or get a refund, they get filed when she's finished with everything. Thankfully, my DH got his permanent residency last year, so that makes things a bit simpler. But we're still waiting for his W-2, a bunch of his W-9s from his freelance jobs, and he's part of a very small partnership that has a later date cutoff for sending out tax documents, so I have no idea when we'll even be able to get all our paperwork to the accountant so she can get started. I miss the days when I could plug a few numbers in TurboTax and be done with it all...

So some people actually get their W-2s early? I don't think I've ever gotten mine in January. It's always the first three or four day in February.

Me too. I usually get mine very late. This is the first year I have gotten mine in January.

My company used to send them out on the last possible day, but this year they sent them out early. DH always gets his early as well.

My husband brought home his W-2 on Friday but I already knew what our status would be because I calculated it out back in Dec ;))

I'm using TT so I'll have it sent in by Wed.

I just got a text from turbo tax saying my return was rejected. As it turns out, they will notice if you're a digit off on a SSN. Oops.

Up til this year I had mine by like the 10th of the month at this job, and at the agency we had them by the 15th. We were a small enough shop even at our largest that we were able to have them ready right away. DH used to have his by the last week at his old job, at this place they've been after the end of the month twice in a row.

It IS ridiculous. If/when I earn more than the foreign income tax threshold (~90k), I'll have to find a good accountant here that knows both sets of tax laws for the US and Oz. I already know of one - billing is $300/hr! :o Another ridiculous cash grab by the IRS is the fact that I can be taxed on any savings accounts I have with greater than $20k in them. I guess they want to make sure American expats aren't living TOO well away from the Mother Land.

Jut got my 1099-MISC. Got my W-2 a while ago. Put it all into TT and I oweeeeee ;( That part-time freelancing job I picked up last year was such a bad idea. Tedious, time consuming, and taxed as self-employment at like 40%. Awful. Should have quit it even sooner. Oh well, hopefully next year it'll be better.

Even though I owe, I'd rather file ASAP. So my budget can get on the recovery track asap as well. Though Intergem is coming in a couple weeks, maybe I should wait till my account recovers from that, first... :naughty:

We don't have all our documentation yet. And I feel your pain Gemfever. I work as a consultant (1099) and boy oh boy it really hurts at tax time!

Got the last bit of my tax documentation in the mail today...entered it into Turbo Tax but haven't filed yet. Very disappointed in our refund this year. :-( We've made more this year than we ever have before...I guess it's true: when you make more, you pay more.

I'm afraid.. very afraid :errrr: :errrr: .. DH is in charge which at least keeps my stress levels down.
