We''ve yet to find a local jeweler that we''d choose over an online vendor. So who takes care of day-to-day things like tightening any prongs that may come lose, polishing, cleaning, etc? Will most any jeweler do this for a fee even if you didn''t purchase the rings there? Thanks!
Definitely find a local jeweler who you can trust. They will usually clean and inspect your ring for free. It is very important to find someone local that you can trust because you can''t be mailing back your ring everytime you want it inspected or something minor fixed!!
I agree. Find someone you trust and that has been around for awhile. The jeweler I use is a family owned business that has been around for over 75 years. They actually now represent more of a "mall" feel to them (having 5 locations), however they do have their own inhouse jewelers that do great work. Whatever you do, don''t tell them you bought online. I have told some places that when I tried getting the diamond set, and they became borderline nasty.
Our jeweler we do use for smaller items and they have some great estate stuff. So we have a good relationship with them and I trust them with our jewelery repairs.
YES.
Definately get acquainted with a trusted local jeweler. You will need watch batteries changed, chains soldered, rings sized, etc. at some point in time. Who knows....you may find something special to purchase too. Your local jeweler (Mom and Pop) was most likely in business before the birth of the internet. You''ve got to respect the roots of this business! It''s also great to talk to the bench jewelers and watchmakers who have been around for decades. Get to know one on a personal level. They''ll be there for you when you need something repaired.
If you get an independent appraisal done locally your appraiser might also be willing to clean your ring regularly for you. My guy has offered to clean my ring, tighten prongs, etc whenever I want to bring it by in the future and of course I''d also probably get them to inspect it regularly for me as well. If professional polishing needs to be done, you''d probably have to pay a fee but that would depend on the appraiser.
