This may be a little crazy, but I am feeling as if my ring setting is a little more modern and "blingy" than I would like. I really wanted it, but now I am considering having it reset as a solitaire in gold without any other stones. I would like to ask you all if there is a particular designer who you think could make me a classic ring setting similar to this one. My diamond is 11.5mm (5.01ct), round. These are not my photos (I found them online), but this is the style I am considering (though I wouldn't want the shank to be quite as wide right next to the stone). Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

This, by the way, is what my ring looks like now:

Looks like you could start with Old World Diamond, as they did Ganesha's RG beauty: https://www.pricescope.com/forum/preloved-ps-jewels/2-82ct-oec-in-rose-gold-8-prong-setting-t196062.html

Good luck! I think the smoother lines of this setting will look MARVELOUS with your amazing stone!

Thank you!!

I personally would do this setting in a white gold metal.

I was leaning toward this style for a long while, but I feel this setting needs to be yellow or rose gold, and if I'm going to go with platinum, I lean toward the other (Edwardian-ish, but without melee) style. Platinum is very dense, and it would be very clunky in a setting like this. I have heard some input that unplated white gold adds a bit of color to a diamond, and I am not into plated metal.

Then you may wish to use 18kt white gold. There are some very white 18kt white gold alloys.

Personally though, I think that yellow or rose gold would add to the older style look that you are seeking.

Thanks, but I very specifically want a setting with no melee.

Thanks, Wink! I have changed my mind so many times! A bunch of people have chimed in that colored metals do add to the color of a diamond, and I was wanting to accentuate the yellow, but that might get old to me. I do love it when I am outside in the shade (or near a window) and my diamond faces up white. At this point I am wanting a setting like Missy's (with some different features in the basket). There's a thread about it...

He doesn't do vintagey milgrain styles, but he does amazing metal work that would translate REALLY well to what you want for this setting, so I will throw Mark Morrell out as a possibility. http://www.mwmjewelry.com/

Thank you so much, Gypsy! It's great to hear from you. I just spent a while looking at his site, and his work is a bit more modern-feeling to me than I want.

I hope you find the setting that makes you happy. I for one, LOVE the setting you have now. It is so elegantly perfect for your 5ct beauty. If I ever get a stone that size, I am going to ask you for your setting!

Yes. I know that. That doesn't mean he can't do exactly what you want. That's why it's called custom. :wavey:

Aww, thanks! In some lighting conditions, I love it.
