Who Cooks?

My parents cooked as a team when I was growing up, so after moving in with DH it was a hard adjustment to where either I would cook, all by myself, or we'd go hungry.

But, I do have to note, that *any* time we need something from the store, my DH will grab his car keys even before I finish the shopping list. So, he does do what he feels contributes to our household.

You are a lucky gal. My hubby will grill, he''s great at it.. But I do most of the cooking. In my circle of friends, I only know one hubby that does all the cooking. This will be a fun thread!!

Same here Lisa. I do all the cooking. Hubby grills and makes great pancakes, that is it.

I do Most of the cooking, and FI does Most of the dishwashing/putting away.

I think its a great way to share the load. My FI is a baker/pastrychef so he does not want to be in the kitchen when he comes home

i love to cook and bake so in our house, i'm the chef and he's the dishwasher.

BF and i carpool to work together so there's no food waiting for either of us. although i'll try to on my days off but it doesn't always happen. every once in a while, BF will make a meal like boxed mac & cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches or brats. can you tell he's a Wisconsin boy?

growing up, my grandmother lived with us so she taught me how to cook, and we had the luxury of having her meals every night. after she moved out, both my parents took turns making dinner. either that or my grandmother would make dinner and have my dad pick it up to take home for us. it was great!

i sure do miss her cooking though...i always try to duplicate it but of course, it's never the same.

since i do a lot of baking, i'm a stickler for measuring everything out and she never measured anything. i'm guessing that's why it never worked out, but it's just hard to copy perfection.

I was part of a discussion about kitchens and someone asked what was the most useful appliance/gadget they had in their kitchens and one woman said "My husband."

I cook about 90% of the time. Not because I''m great at it, but because James is really weirdly critical of his own food when he cooks (even though it''s always very tasty), and it seems to stress him out, so most of the cooking ends up being done by me.

I cook, he cleans. It works well for us.

You are a lucky girl!
My fiance doesn''t cook at all, even though he is actually quite good at it judging by the way he talks. He can make a killer breakfast but only does that very occasionally. So I do all the cooking and cleaning up afterwards. He actually doesn''t lift a finger in or around the house which is frustrating at times, but he does work extremely hard during the day so I tend to let him off fairly easy (as did his Mom unfortunately). Having said that, I am a super neat freak and quite enjoy the domestic stuff anyway so I don''t tend to mind as much as I probably should except when he takes it too far and acts like I am his own personal maid.

i guess im a lucky gal too...dh is a great cook and always comes up with new and interesting menus
1.gif
...but he is lazy a lot and wants to order out lol

We have a pretty good system worked out... BF cooks dinner during the week and breakfast on the weekends. I cook dinners on the weekends, do all the grocery shopping, and also tend to do more of the kitchen cleaning (although when I am totally wiped out, he picks up the slack).

If we''re having a dinner party, we divide and conquer - we''ll each take on a few dishes.

He''s a wonderful cook - the type that can look at whatever''s in the fridge and will whip up something fabulous and tasty. I am more of a planner and will use the week to plan out menus & recipes for our weekend dinners.

Ditto. I do all the other cooking. Occasionally he will cook bacon and eggs for Sunday brekkie, but that's it. You ARE lucky. Heck, I wish he just knew how to cook a couple meals, that would be a help.

And I too only know of one guy that really cooks.

Just curious if you or husband cooks dinner?

My SO has dinner ready for me when I come home. All of my friends/colleagues sound so surprised when I tell them. They all say ''WHAT?? I wish!'' or ''Lucky girl'' etc etc. Is it really that rare? My father cooked growing up, so I guess its what I am used to. So I dont think its all that unusal. But maybe it is? Difference is, I usally clean the kitchen/do the dishes after dinner since he is the one who cooks, where as my dad cooks and cleans up for my mom. Now that I know is unusual!

We''re the same way, I love coming home to dinner! Although if he is working later and I''m home I will get it started.

I cook, unless it''s something like burgers or eggs. He doesn''t know how to cook, and he won''t really learn. Plus, he tells me it tastes better when I make it...

I cook, but DH washes all the dishes. It works for us - I don''t mind cooking, but I HATE washing dishes.

Same.

He makes great pancakes though!

FI will make mac & cheese or a simple protein + veggie + rice dish, so he''s not totally clueless. There are a lot of nights when I''m out of town and he has to fend for himself and he doesn''t seem to be going hungry
2.gif
However, he prefers that I help him cook. Most nights I love cooking, but there are some nights when I wish he''d just do it himself and let me relax.

HI:

Alasw, it seems to be my job...

cheers--Sharon

I do the cooking and even the grilling, but my husband has packed a lunch for me every workday for the last 20 years. Yay, hubs!
I need to work out a deal like this. He already packs his own lunch, so making one extra tuna sandwich can''t be that hard. I think I''ve earned it with all the dinners I make
2.gif

I do all the cooking and the majority of the kitchen cleaning (hubby will clean after a big meal) but he also does other chores so I think it evens out. I actually enjoy cooking so I dont mind
1.gif

But I will be honest, it would be nice to come home when he gets off early from work and have dinner waiting for me heehee
3.gif

My husband does ALL of the cooking. I do not cook. Unless he wants to eat frozen pizza, or mac and cheese every night

When I was single, I ate like a bachelor. Anything that I could take out of the freezer, stick on a baking pan, and put in the oven was what I ate. Think taquitos, chicken nuggets, and the like. DH refuses to eat like that, so he cooks us nice square meals. It is good in the sense that I know eat vegetable with my dinner, but I also eat a lot more!

My DH does must of the cooking, I will said 80% of the time. And I do all the dishes 100% of the time

My husband used to do most of the cooking, but lately I''ve taken over the lion''s share of the work. He likes to joke that he''s my sous chef now.
9.gif

I cook all the meals, but I am a SAHM, and cooking is a hobby of mine - I really love it. DH can only make a couple of things, but isn''t a proficient cook, so he''s maybe only cooked 5 meals in the 3 years we''ve been married.

BF is the cook out of the two of us. But then, he''s worked in restaurants since he was 15 and knows his way around a kitchen better than I could ever hope to. So I just put all my energy into appreciating his skills.

We kind of both do the cooking I guess. Most of the time, it''s one of our usual 5 meals that we know how to make. Grilled chicken or fancy omelets or whatever. Nothing too challenging. I hate cooking though so FI usually takes care of it during the week. I''m the Sunday chef. That''s the day where I''m willing to experiment a new recipe and i always try to make enough so we can freeze some for later in the week so neither of us have to cook after work. i can''t remember the last time FI came up with a new recipe or anything like that. menu planning is definitely up to me.

It''s weird though. I hate cooking but love baking. i try not to bake too much though b/c if it''s around i''ll eat it. we try to eat healthy at home so that we can eat what we want when we go out to eat. that makes cooking and baking at home a lot less fun for both of us.

We both love to cook, so we both do! Usually together, but sometimes one of us will give the other the night off. :)

I''d say that he''s better in the sense that he likes to just throw stuff together and it usually comes out amazingly well... but I like to try different recipes a lot, but not deviate much from them except for adding tons more garlic than they call for. ;)

I like to bake more, but we''re both good at that too! I make fabulous cookies and cakes, but FI''s cheesecakes are TO DIE FOR.

I don''t cook. Period. I think I''ve only cooked maybe a handful of meals in the last couple years. Now especially - its pretty hard to cook for one. I like schwans food - pop it in the oven and go!

He does the cooking and actually enjoys it! However, he is rather critical of his cooking, so I do not think he enjoys eating it as much as I do.

oh gosh, both FI and i aren''t good at cooking, we look for recipes online and try our best when it''s our turn to cook

The hubs heats a mean Lean Cuisine. Bobby Flay he ain''t.
