Hi all,

First post here, but I''m sure glad that I found this website! So much great information :)

I am planning on purchasing a pair of RSG studs from Whiteflash for my girlfriend this Christmas - I have been speaking with James from WF and he has been very helpful with the process. However, there are a couple of things that I can''t seem to make up my mind on...

My girlfriend really likes princess-cut diamonds - in fact, this is the only shape that i''ve heard her have great interest in. (when we''re joking around about "wedding-talk", she almost ALWAYS brings up that the e-ring must be princess-cut, lol) So, I was pretty set in getting the 0.50ctw RSG princess studs from WF, but started to doubt myself after hearing about the underperformance of princess diamonds to a comparable round brilliant. The 0.50ctw RSG round studs from WF after $50 more expensive than the princess studs, and I can''t seem to choose between the two.

I am positive that she will love it either way, but I just want to do the best for her and have been thinking about this for a while now. Any princess cut lovers out there? How would you feel if your bf surprised you with studs that weren''t your favorite shape? Do you think that getting your favorite shape is worth the decreased sparkle?

I''d really like to get these ordered by Monday/Tuesday before I keep flip-flopping decisions :) Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

She''s a princess cut lover through and through, so get her the RSG princess studs. She''ll be thrilled. I don''t see you going wrong here!

Ditto!!

Thritto - I''d go with the princess, too.....she seems to care about shape, so stick with that.

Normally I''d vote for rounds over the princesses, but your lady has a strong preference for the shape, so I''d give her what she wants!!!! They will be well cut stones, so you can''t go wrong.

I think your girlfriend really likes Princess Cut so I would get her Princess Cut earnings.

Yep, get her the princess cut stones.

I''d be very disappointed if my hubby got me a different shaped stone when I made it very obvious that I wanted a specific shaped stone but would try to put on my best happy face. I personally happen to prefer step cuts over rounds so even though RBs are best known as the sparkliest shape, not everyone likes it. In your case, she made it very clear she wants princess cuts so that''s what you should get her.

wow, thanks to everyone for the feedback :) everyone here is right - it would be odd to get her rounds when she clearly loves princess-cut!

i think i will go forth with the 0.50ctw princess RGS studs from WF - i''ll be sure to post up the results :)

happy holidays to everyone, and thanks again

Well, all I can say is, she was telling you she wants a princess cut engagement ring! That does not necessarily mean she wants every single piece of diamond jewelry to be princess cut, although I think it is fine to get the princess earrings. I do have an uneasy feeling that when she sees that little box, she might be expecting something else since you two have been joking around about "wedding talk".

=) the wedding talk has all been in good fun, we both know that it is going to be a little bit of time before it actually happens :)

Had a quick followup question for everyone..

Is the four prong setting that comes on their rounds the same setting that comes on their princess studs? I''ve seen pictures on the forum and it seems (to me at least) that the rounds come with more of a basket, roundish type setting, while the princess studs have a more squarish setting..

thanks for any help!!

I think she''ll love the pc earrings. My pc studs were in a square basket setting.

do you happen to have pictures of your PC studs that you could post up? did you get them from WF? thank you!!

the more i look at the WF RSG princess stud earrings.. i can''t get over how the settings look.. is it just me or do they look extremely bulky?

I would prefer a slightly more rounded settings.. like the ones available from BN:

http://www.bluenile.com/product_details.asp?oid=4787&nav1=earring_channel.asp

however, these only come in screwbacks. sigh, wish i could get the best of both worlds

The real settings are not going to look as bulky as these highly magnified pictures do. I don''t think you need to worry about the WF settings. I trust the quality of the WF stones, and I also would not want screw backs.

ellen,

i COMPLETELY agree with you! those settings just look kind of odd to me.. whether they are enlarged or not. i also saw a picture of them on an ear in this forum.. same result there.

i am pretty set in getting princess-cut studs.. hopefully WF will be able to change the settings on these for me ;) -crossing fingers-

thanks for your feedback! it''s good to know i''m not alone

So I''ve finally placed my order with WF :)

and let me start off by saying that Lesley from WF is an absolute doll! i called in today and she was able to understand my issue with the current settings on the princess studs and replace them with different settings. quick, easy, painless.. customer service is top notch!

^^

I forgot to note that the small studs in the picture are 0.25ctw, and the ones that I ordered are 0.50ctw. She provided these images from a previous order.

I''ll make sure to post when I receive them! Thanks again to Lesley and James from WF :)

She''s going to love them. You are a wise man to go with her favored cut.

Aren''t Whiteflash and Lesley the greatest?

I just bought some RSG earrings from them, too. You''re going to be dazzled by the sparkles.

They look very nice! Out of curiosity, did you happen to ask whether the W prong setting can be modified for a princess cut stone? I thought Ellen''s suggestion was a fantastic one, and I''d be curious to know the answer, if you happened to ask WF.

thank you :)

I agreed with the idea that the W-prong would look great on the princess studs - when I asked WF about it, they said that although not currently available, they are working on a W-prong that will fit princess studs. Also, Lesley mentioned that she had recommended the princess studs come permanently in the less boxy settings.

Looks like a lot of neat things to come in the future :)

wayne, those are better.

And yes, isn''t Lesley just the nicest person to work with?

Thanks for letting us know about the things to come, funny I suggested something they were actually working on!

And thankies FG.

p.s. Let us know what your girl thinks!

It never hurts to show a woman you are listening closely to what she's saying. I vote princess.

ETA: I see you already ordered. Congrats! Leslie is an absolute DOLL!

I saw that. LOL.

I edited while you were posting.

I think the W settings modified for squares would fantastic if they can do them in the future. But I like the ones the OP got better than the ones on the site.
