I am purchasing a whiteflash ACA diamond and would like to also purchase one of their settings to place the diamond in. I am curious if I should have them send me the diamond before setting it, pay for a private appraisal , then send it back to be set,or if I should trust their respected name and have them set it without seeing the diamond first?

I'd be comfortable having Whiteflash set a diamond for me I hadn't vetted with my own eyes... but I'm very familiar with diamonds and shopping online. If this is your first diamond purchase, I'd recommend seeing before setting it just to get a feel for the stone. I've had friends buy online and then be shocked at how small it really is because they'd been looking at blown up magnified images online, if that makes sense. I personally wouldn't spend the money sending an ACA to an appraiser until it was set (for insurance purposes).

But also remember a stone looks smaller unset than set. Also just make sure you don't drop the stone or anything before having it set!

I totally feel comfortable both purchasing and having Whiteflash set the stone (along with a number of other vendors here), as far as trusting them to put the right stone in the right setting and having them set it properly, in fact that is my preference, having the same vendor for both stone and setting purchase, as it reduces the risk of things going wrong somewhere along the line.

but as Kenny says, people vary. If doing it that was does not make you feel good, then you should do what you feel is comfortable. Remember while a set stone cannot be fully examined the same way a loose stone is (for example dimensions and weight will be estimated) the aca have a number enscribed on it that an appraiser at a later date can verify for id purposes, and also give you their estimate of the diamond's qualities, etc.
