hey all, i''m in the market for a cushion cut or oval white sapphire. two questions:

does anyone have any pictures of white sapphires that are set in jewelry and not loose?

if you were buying a white sapphire and wanted it to be perfect, who would you go to?

There is a pair of earrings with 5 cts or so white sapphire set in diamond pave frames at Karen Bleifer Jewelry (LINK).

I'd ask a cuter! Because as with any light color or colorless gems, brilliance and fancy cut makes allot of the show with such stones. Aside the cutters posting here, I would drop a line at 'American Thai' - there is no colorless sapphire in stock now, but they used to have some beautiful ones cut to creatively optimized proportions. It was an interesting 'lesson' for me to see how those work! There's so much talk-talk-talk about ideal diamond cut. What 'Ideal cut' means for white sapphire, is just as nice a story, IMO. And so much less talked about!

I agree with val,
White sapphire would need to be well cut to look like anything other than a piece of flat glass.

I looked at some white sapphire earrings last weekend. The vendor had four pairs, and only 1 of them had any life to them at all. I think that I would have to see the earrings in person to know if I wanted them or not or would have to be assured that they were exceptionally well cut.

All the ones I''ve seen have a ''milky'' hue to them. Is it normal or just poorer quality?

Some do... Colorless sapphires are reputed for this sort of haze. There are enough without it.

No idea what constitutes good quality for colorless sapphire - these stones are fairly disregarded by any stretch of the imagination. Never heard anyone to actually like the haze on white sapphire, so I suppose that is a quality fault. On colored sapphire, it wouldn''t be considered bad. All in all, your call to judge.

I would definitely like to see these sapphires appreciated for their own, and cut to fit their properties not diamond wishful thinking. As a colorless diamond stand-in, colorless sapphire doesn''t fare well at all.

This is about all I know about the subject.

There is some white sapphire that is no longer ''hazy'' but translucent. Those are mostly rough material for color enhancement. Without treatment... these guys are hard to love. I hope that is not what you found.

I recently acquired an 8+ ct portuguese cushion white sapphire for my brother (sorry, he has it being set and I have no photos). It is crystaline, not hazy, and not greyish or blueish tinged as many reportedly can be (there was a somewhat recent thread on that). My SIL is a September birthday, and he is compiling sets of various colored sapphires for her. This will be a pendant and, while it is certainly not a diamond substitute, it has substantial brilliance and is a very attractive gem.

ETA: I got it from K&K Gems in Falls Church VA.

Hi,

this is a 10+ carat white sapphire in a white gold choker.

I am not very good in making jewelry photos but the stone has good luster:

It is set with an open back for the stone to touch the skin:

(and the light fall through)

I can never buy enough untreated (pure) white sapphires for clients who need them for healing.

Most (or all) I get offered have already been blowheated (means lower heat) and my own mines do not produce enough.

White-white without any color tint are really rare (and very nice).

I have some earrings with white sapphires set around pear shaped Iolite. The untrained eye would think they were diamonds, but these are small stones.I am presently having a heart shape labradorite set in a ring with white sapphires around it for my daughter.I think if you could find a fancy cut of somekind would be really nice....like a radiant cut.

the pear on this page is really nice! and also already spoken for:

i, too, think that white sapphire should be appreciated for its own sake and not looked to as a diamond substitute.

I don''t know where you would buy a white sapphire in your area, but since you asked for pics, here is my own oval white sapphire pendant. The picture doesn''t really do it justice, and for the price, I consider it a find.
