Is white light just plain old white light or does it have some fire in it as well? Well, which would you prefer, more white light in a dimaond, or fire and why?

A mix of both but in a round ill take slightly more white light over slightly more fire.
in asschers they never will be as bright as a round so its all about kewl patterns and kicken fire.

I require a mix of both and would probably err a bit more for fire than white light. Having had a white brilliant cut diamond I am SOOOO OVER white light..it''s overrated!!! So now I look for that ideal cut stone that has the mix of both and it keeps me very happy. Depending on the ''lighting'', the diamond looks more white or fiery. I love a well-cut stone because of this.

Oh and by the way IS/LS/FS are scope images, ideal scope, lightscope and firescope, on how to view light return of the diamond. BScope is a BrillianceScope report which does a similar thing on a chart of output. There may be more info in the PS tutorial....

I've heard that you cannot have a really fiery diamond and have a really brilliant stone as well. But does the BS contradict this assumption--(VH in each category)? Is this true, and if i stick with VH, VH, VH, can i rest assured (i know i must see it in person, but im speaking in general). Why does white light interest you so much storm- isn't plain looking to you? it is to me

Not with proper contrast it doesnt.
Also it puts on a nice light show accross the room.

The b-scope stuff is too much to get into right now but a triple vh stone will have lots of fire and lots of white light return but might not look as fiery as one with less white light return and the same fire return.

That is not true about having a really bright and really fiery diamond. You can have both and many ideal cut stones with the right specs WILL have that nice combo.

But aka for people who LOVE fire...they cannot have that same level of white light return as you could in a more ''ideal'' cut if they want more fire. Same with the brilliant white cuts. If you start teeter-tottering over into loving more of one than the other then the other option inevitably suffers a bit.

But don''t take that to mean that you cannot have a great white light return AND a great fiery stone. Many of the more stellar cut stones out there have exactly that. That is my preference!

As for why I like fire more than white light, I had a BIC stone that returned more white light than fire. I was sooo starved for fire in the stone, all that thing ever did was look white and bright to me. Everyone else would talk about the amazing rainbows of color in their diamond and flashing off the facets and I felt like I was left wanting. When I got my real ideal stone, it was sooo clear to me what I had been sacrificing. Now I think I love the fire more than the white light, I had enough of that. But I do like the ''combo'' so I''m very happy.

So if i wanted to sacrifice a little white light for fire, i could look at the BS report and get a stone teetering on the H and VH (or all the way in the H, i.e http://www.goodoldgold.com/1_03ct_h_vs1_h&a1.htm) for white light and an all-the-way-to-the-right VH for fire/and vica versa? hope i made sense

This GOG stone that someone else is considering:

http://www.goodoldgold.com/0_82ct_g_si1_h&a.htm

Shows a bit higher on FIRE than WHITE LIGHT even though both are excellent.

So if you could believe the BS (not everyone does!) then you might think that this stone would have a tiny bit more fire than white light. Would your EYE pick it up? Hard to say.

Is light view 3 displaying the white light? If so, its seems that white light looks a little more attractive-- to me at least. Im still a rough rock, so my eyes aren''t that trained yet!

Fire is the best and most attractive, obviously (out of all of the other lights), All i want to get for Amanda is something that that blinds people! VH everything!

No contest.

FIRE!

Want white light?
Save your money.
Don't buy a diamond.
Just look at the light.

I''ll go on with caution

2.1 on HCA
Actually, just one question on HCA- what does it mean if it is around .5 and 1.5 what are the differences- it says the difference is a matter of taste?

I really think it''s a personal preference - I went with more white light for my e-ring stone, but more fire for my pendant stone.

I love the blinding effect of the white light off my diamond in the sunlight.

Most of the round diamonds the PS vendors sell are pretty well balanced between fire and white light return.
GOG does have a few of what I think of as specialty stones what are cut for fire over white light and very few cut for white light over fire.
For most people the balanced diamonds are the better pick.

The b-scope gives an indication of direct light performance there is a huge set of light conditions it doesnt take into account.
A double (h in scint) or triple VH super-ideal diamond that also scores 9.5 or better on the isee2 machine is going to be one of the top diamonds in all catagories and all conditions.

I enjoy both, but find fire the most fascinating as it is so variable with the different colours.

The fire is great but at the end of the day the blinding white flashes of light

catch my eyes the most!

I prefer fire (just look at my avatar...hehehe)!
