Will 14K or 18K need to be taken off when swimming or showering?

Chlorine does cause pitting of gold, so I definitely would not wear it in a chlorinated pool. I don''t usually recommend showering with any jewelry on because of all of the soap and everything. I take all of my jewelry off before showering.

I wear my 14k yellow gold rings in the shower and the pool, I havent had any trouble, but I dont know about white gold, my only ring in white gold is a RHR and I dont wear it alot!

I think I''d take it off for swimming if only for the risk of loss. I never would have thought it, but since researching rings I''ve read enough stories about rings coming off during swimming that I wouldn''t risk it. Like others have said, I''d take it off for showering just to keep the soap and stuff off of it, and I take off my rings whenever I''m cleaning house w/ any harsh chemicals, just in case.

I would amend that comment to "I have not had any trouble, yet.

If you are swimming in chlorinated pools, you will eventually have a problem, usually in the form of broken prongs which look as if the gold was made of sponge like material, ie full of holes.

May pools are no longer using chlorine as the chemical of choice, I do not know what the affect of the newer chemical is.

As for swimming. If you are swimming in salt water you are at serious risk of loosing your ring, in fact I lost my first wedding band that way. The salt will desicate your body somewhat, causing your finger to shrink, at least for a while, thus greatly increasing the chance of loss.
