I have a 14k white gold ring that I''m trying to get an exact copy made of. They told me the gold from the original ring cant be re-used for the new ring or for a non-ring project. Something about characteristics of the gold becoming unstable... I cant remember. My two questions. 1) Is it true that I cant reuse the gold for a ring OR anything else (a pendant or something)? 2) Is it kosher to ask a jeweler if they''ll credit the value of the old gold toward the new ring they make?? (I''ve read that gold CAN be reused if it''s re-refined but thats not practical on a small scale so trade-ins would go to a BIG stack actually worth re-refining)??? Any help appreciated, Thanks!!
