We are beginning the process of ordering a wedding band for FI. We are having a difficut time deciding on what metal to choose. FI wants a 6mm band with a linear design around the band and a surprise diamond on the inside. We have nixed the platinum idea due to budget constraints, as we need the money for the wedding. We have been quoted $800 for 18kt white gold and $1300 for palladium. It is highly possible FI will not always wear the band on his finger due to safety issues with his job. So, he may wear it on a chain around his neck during the work week. He however, still wants some heft to the ring. Which would wear better and scratch less? If he wears on a chain will that expedite the need to replate if we go wg due to scratching against another metal? Is it true that 18kt weighs more than palladium, or is it about the same? The replating issue is a bugger, but we are trying to decide if the palladium is worth the extra $500. Any help would be appreciated.
