Can someone explain to me about the white flash rating system?

For example...this diamond received one star. Is it due to the SI2 Clarity? The color is high and it has Medium to moderate Fluorescence. Or am I missing more of whats going on with this stone..

Upon reading the threads about the beautiful SI1 and SI2''s I am looking into it...

alrighty as often happens I may have answered my own question here..I found this on their site.

1 Star ratings may indicate diamonds located with a supplier who has not provided enough data to make a decisive judgment, or diamonds of below-average quality if all data is present. This rating may change with more information. Contact us for details.

So this would be a diamond that white flash would have to contact the supplier for more info? Would White flash actually have it in hand at some point to be able to see it first hand and give an accurate description?

Bottom line though...could be not so great . Or could be a super suprise find?

I think you''re exactly right. From what I can tell, it''s hit or miss. What I plan to do or should I say my BF plans to do is send them a list of diamonds that have one star and four stars. That way if the one stars are super surprises all we''ll have to do is choose one and if they''re duds at least we still have our four star ones to choose from. Also, make sure you mention the pricescope price. I just found out about it and I think it''s awesome!

Stick to the A Cut Above and Expert Selection stones...4 or 5 stars, ideal cut, if looking for rounds. WF has an excellent inventory, so I'd only look at their in-house selection.

Per the highlighted section above, absolutely. It's why I'd agree with Kansas Jayhawks strategy, and why I recommend optimizemag choices with a vendor, per strategies A&B noted beneath my signature. I think DS is maybe a bit narrow...although the smaller swath might provide a safer and quicker selection.

The one you found, Lauralu, is the very least expensive option that's E & SI2 above 1.5 carats that WF offers, found on the big search engine. If, for example, you instead use the Price Stats option, still looking fir E & SI 2, and WF, you'd find this one, requiring more cash, but yielding a more likely favorable alternative, presumably. Alternately, an option A from WF with similar characteristics could be these two.

(edited to add)...if your dollar amount is more a driver...here's 3 more to consider as options B, B and A...

Regards,

man Regular guy, for some reason your posts confused me from time to time, probably that B B and A stuff:)

but on topic, WF is not a drop shipment company. They are not going to send anything to you that they dont view themselves. When you show an interest in it they will talk to you about fees, etc. Then they will order it and check it out for your. At that point they will provide you with other information like IS images, etc. They will also evaluate the information and decide whether they recommend it or not. Now I do not know how they determine if they recommend it but I imagine it is based on a combination of price and quality. Thus, if the price is less than all the other E SI2s, and the performance is slightly less, then no reason not to recommend it you know? also, if the performance if say the price is on par with a 3 star diamond, and the performance is that of a 3 star diamond,t henw hy not recommend it, its a good price for the diamond. Thus, if you are looking for Ideal cut, top of the line light performance you can certainly find them in the virual inventory and it can without a doubt be a great way to save money and get a gorgeous stone. But the other side of the coin is that when you call in a diamond it might be recommended by them, but it might not be that top of the line ideal performance ACA ES quality that you are looking for, in which case they will ahve to ship it back to the supplier they got it from and you will have to burdent he expense of that exchange.

However, as you know, WF can not affrod to buy every Ideal cut top of the line performer out there on the market, thus it is obviously a very real possiblity to find much cheaper diamonds that perform as well and better than the top of the line in-house diamonds. But it is a bit more time consuming and is not a risk free venture.

One final thing though, they CAN call up the supplier and ask them basic questions like "is it eyeclean" "do you feel that the color has been properly graded" etc. The supplier can pull it out of his inventory, eyeball it for you and tell WF what he sees. but to get the other services that WF offers that obviously requries having them ship it to their office in Houston, which isnt free for them, but is already calculated into the price if you decide to purchase the diamond.

Working...A is in-house, B is virtual. I''m both agreeing with you, and naming some specific options to consider of each type.

Does that eliminate any confusion?

Definitely do not rule out a 1 star----I am the proud owner of an amazing AGS000 1.59ct round stone purchased from the fabulous people at Whiteflash--------my diamond was in their virtual inventory and listed as 1 star----but that was because they only had the basics, size, color, clarity and table depth. They knew it had an AGS cert but didn''t have the cert. Well, when WF called the vendor who had the stone and got the certificate from them we found out it looked like a winner. Of course WF pulled the stone in-house, reviewed it thoroughly, took pictures, did Sarin report, IS image, THEN and only then will they even recommend or not recommend a stone. The whole process went very fast, stone was sent overnight to WF and the next day I pulled the trigger and bought it after WF went over it with a fine tooth comb. Celina told me that if/when (I''m hoping WHEN, my husband is probably much more on the IF side of the fence) I upgrade my stone, it will go into their Expert Selection inventory! And honestly, she seemed very pleasantly surprised at what a winner we found! Oh, and another great thing is if WF pulls a stone in house for review and does NOT recommend the stone there is absolutely no charge to you. Only if they pull it in, review it, RECOMMEND it and then you do NOT buy it do they charge, and it’s only like $60. Sorry for the long winded response........I just want people to know that you can CERTAINLY get a GREAT find even in the 1 and 2 star categories.
