I am in the process of replacing my chipped/damaged stone and am looking for a little direction. I currently have a 1.02 RB GIA Ex/VG/VG H-SI-1. I am hoping to up the size just a bit....maybe to a 1.2/1.25. Would you stick with the H/SI-1 or to get more bang for the buck switch to H/SI2 or even an I SI-!?

Just not sure which direction I should go.......I am very happy with my H color and see nothing but white, not even a hint of color.

Probably looking to do another GIA but this time EX/Ex/Ex....it seems the AGS stones are higher and I am not sure I would notice the difference. My budget is around $6500

Thanks....

I would definitely consider all those options if you want to increase the size, have a look and see what is out there which is well cut, then eliminate by checking which are eyeclean to your standards. Also check out AGS0 and GIA Excellent cut grades to narrow the field a bit to find a well cut diamond.

This could be a good stone, check the very thin part of the girdle isn't a durability issue -

ETA - here you go, a couple I found which might be good options!

This one is a couple of hundred over budget if you paid with a wire transfer-

That would be great, if you have the time......thanks!

How''s it going with State Farm? Did they just issue you a check?

Did insurance cover your chipped stone?

AGS stones probable have a higher price because they have a better cut grading system. Be sure to get crown and pavilion angles from a GIA cert and run them thru the HCA before buying a stone. And I would go down to the I, just because I did and I thought it faced up super white.

Thanks Lorelei....these all look great. I will call Whiteflash in the morning......

My mistake...it is actually Allstate, not State Farm. They have been great really. not what was I expecting at all. I spoke with the claims person, she sent their jeweler (New York Jewelers here in Chicago) to my house (nice that I didn''t have to travel and get pressured in their store) and he confirmed the damage. He of course brought a few diamonds to my house and nearly flipped out when I broke out my laptop and started punching the numbers to HCA........

Allstate asked right away if I wanted to use my own jewler or theirs. I chose my own of course so they will cut me a check to use directly with my jeweler. I may have considered using their jewler but he was so high.........but becuase his prices were so high he gave me (and Allstate) a good figure with which to replace my stone. So I am hoping to get something a little bigger.

If you don''t notice any color in your H now, I definitely think you will be safe with an H or I/SI combo.

Thanks for the update on the insurance. Yes, the key is to have the insurance jeweler give a high quote to replace your stone. State Farm also paid me out after I got that for my lost ring.

Love the bit about punching their diamonds'' numbers in the HCA. But they didn''t hold up all that well!

I would stick with the H/SI1 or better.
