The courtyard where we are having the cocktail hour is cobblestone large... has a small fireplace and water fountain. But they are both a little overwelmed by the sheer size of the courtyard.

The venue will be setting out one round of ten with chivari chairs for those who needs seats and 6 wine barrels for everyone else to just set stuff on.

I want to keep decorations inexpensive. Okay, who am I kidding, I want them CHEAP BABY... and these are the two options I''ve come up with. I think I can do either at under 10 each and maybe less.

1. Pillar candles in either mosaic glass, orange crackle, or clear plain holders with either rose petals or spools of double faced satin ribbon underneath.

2. Antiqued copper 4 inch planters with little plants (whatever I find that week at home depot) inside.

Ceremony is at 4:00. Cocktail hour at 5:00. Sunset at around 6:05.

I adore candles so they got my vote. Plus not sure what time your wedding is on at but they''d be beautiful when the sun goes down.

You can never go wrong with candles. They add warmth, ambience, romance; and for far less money than anything else.

It sounds like a beautiful location for a cocktail hour.

Okay. So candles are winning so far. I have to say, I''m leaning that way for the ambiance, and also since the sun will be setting right then, I think they''d be great. But one of the things I don''t like about the courtyard is that it doesn''t have a lot of greenery... so I wanted to add more to it. Thank you Holly... it is a lovely courtyard. I may post a pic when I get home to show you all, the most accurate one I have is on my home computer.

Candles. Alone? With petals? Ribbon? something else??? I found some orange crackled glass holders on clearance at Micheals, but they were 10 a peice (not including the candles) and I can''t use a 50% off coupon because they are on clearance. I''m going to wait to see if they come down more. Or maybe just ask to talk to the manager to see if he''ll cut me a deal on 7 of them. Wonder if that would work. Can''t hurt, right?

Greenery is needed? Does a local florist have potted plants (large ones) to rent? Some florists have them, and they don't cost an arm and a leg to rent. Strategically placed, a few can add just enough green to the area.

When my business needed a lot of centerpieces for a Christmas party, we went online with Hobby Lobby. Got a great deal ($3 each) for large hurricane-style candle holders for more than 30 tables. Buying in bulk at HL was very cost effective.

Rose petals are always pretty; but it will depend on what you choose for holders. Clear glass also looks great with colored glass beads/stones/seashells/coffee beans (great smell!)/colored sand/crystals/etc. Steer clear of anything which might be flammable.

I like the candle idea, but since you mentioned wine barrels, what about old wine bottles with some flowers in them?

OH... that is a cute idea. Hmm. Costco for some roses the day before. Some wine bottles... god knows we can save up enough of those between all my family members. A ribbon around the neck maybe... I have some ribbon already. Wired white ribbon. Hmmm.

I don''t know if we have a hobby lobby around here. I will have to check that out.

I don''t think my florist will have plants to rent, she works out of her home. And honestly the floral budget needs to be pared back if anything. I though to put the rose petals under the holder, not in it. You know... sprinkled around the top of the barrel?? Thanks for all the ideas Holly.

I vote candles with rose petals b/c you don''t really need to be buying plants at home depot the week of your wedding. Plus rosepetals on a nice tablecloth looks great and is fairly cheap. (I was skeptical of the rose petals, but they served their purpose well.)

http://www.michaels.com/online/images/product/large/hd0183.jpg The orange ones in this pic are the ones I liked best at Michaels today. They are on sale for 9.99 each. But I''m wondering if I can bargain with them. They had a 25% off coupon YESTERDAY. Maybe if I talk to the manager he''ll give me decent price on 7???

What do you guys think of these?

I like them all. Any of them will look great. It never hurts to try and bargain with the manager if you''re buying in bulk.

I think I''ll give it a shot if I get out of work at a reasonable hour today. Thanks Holly. You''ve been a great help!

I agree with the candles!

Ditto I love candles woo!

Gonna have to hit another store for those. The manager at this one redefined cranky. I''m determined that I''m getting either those, or something similar.

They did have some awesome green mosaic ones too.
